My opinion. Spike deserves a better girl than Rarity. No one would feel sorry for Spike if Rarity rejected him because in the Crystal Empire alone, it won’t be a surprise if there was a line of girls interested in him. Pony or otherwise.
 
However, Spike’s crush lives on even all the way to season 8 as two of those season 8 episodes will reference it. It also appears to be in a state of limbo. Spike does nothing to progress it and Rarity keeps him close because she does like the guy.

People have different reasons looking forward to it. Stellar Flare is one of them. And then there’s sub reasons. She is best MILF. On the other hand, there are fans who are real kids that just want to know more about Starlight and Sunburst’s parents.
 
Me, I’m for the lore. I want to see the analysts reactions on how it builds upon Starlight and Sunburst’s back story. The very simple question “why didn’t they write letters to each other?” can be answered by this episode. Why didn’t Sunburst come home after flunking magic school? Answered by this episode. Were Starlight’s parents abusive? Answered by this episode. In addition, new questions arise.

Parent Map is actually very well anticipated even in other mlp communities. Its either dreaded or hyped. Regardless, its one of the biggest lore bombs of the season. People are already buzzing about it and it hasn’t even aired yet.
 
If more of the original S1 fans are still around, people would be talking about the Spike gets wings episode more, I think.

Why were people even looking for romance in it? I think you’re missing the point of the episode but its not perfect by any means. Like “what do you do if you haven’t seen each other in years?” Well, whatever it is, they didn’t do it in the episode and its incredibly jarring.
 
The episode’s vibe wasn’t for very young kids. Its for the parents that feel their kids have grown distant from them. It wasn’t like how Rarity was adjusting to Sweetie Bell growing up. It was a lot more like Celestia worrying about Twilight outgrowing her but in Starlight and Sunburst’s case, Celestia didn’t know how to let go and was causing more harm than good so they accidentally pushed the children away for many years. The kids closed themselves away from their parents because of it.
 
Parents DON’T want what’s best for you, they want what’s SAFE for you. If you’re a parent and you watch the episode, you’ll question your relationship with your children. Fortunately for Starlight and Sunburst, it didn’t turn out like the Perfect Pair where Grand Pear wanted to reconcile but was too late. They still had time.

Of course its a Starburst episode. They are the only characters that take center stage. No other recurring character appears outside of the opening scene.
 
If you mean its not an episode where they’re shipped, then there’s no surprise there. Starlight and Sunburst never had a shipping episode. This is the fourth Starlight and Sunburst episode but the first that doesn’t focus on their emotions towards each other for a change.

We don’t really know if that was indeed Sunburst’s father. It could have been some random town pony from Starlight’s flash backs. My guess is they’re going the Walt Disney route and Stellar Flare and Firelight are single parents. Besides, they’re not as bland as the mane 6’s parent. They’re eccentric enough to have an episode all their own.

According to the leaked synopsis, s08e12 is a CMC episode. They want to get into Twilight’s school but aren’t allowed because they are already good at friendship.

There’s still going to be a few surprises on that cheat sheet. For example, the H&H day episode only mentions Big Mac and Sugar Belle. It did not say that Discord, Spike and the CMCs will be taking part in the story. I bet there’s a few more episodes in there where we’ll see characters appear that we weren’t expecting.

The episode has no shipping whatsoever. Uncommon Bond had way more shipping undertones because of potential jealousy angles. And every autistic mare cucks Glimmer. That’s always funny as fuck.
 
The next episode is mainly lore. Although implication of “parents like these” returning in a future episode to harass Starlight and Sunburst may lead to interesting assumptions. Like “when are we becoming grandparents” assumptions.

A back story’s all she has right now. Its literally all that she has going for her. It can at least be elaborated further.
 
Starlight did have some development. We found out she’s a spoiled possessive brat. But the only time you’ll ever get the chance to see an actual character instead of a plot device with hooves is when her sempai is around.

Its gonna break head canons about abusive parents, running away from home after flunking magic school, stuff like that.
 
This Horse Play episode seemed kind of tame but there’s some lore squeezed into it too. Too bad we didn’t see any flash backs from Celestia’s pov as a young pony.

I know. I have a lot to say about it too. Its like a band aid fix to a broken back story, I guess. What’s particularly interesting is the situation. Its not easily anything little children can relate to.

No keep talking. People will literally run out of this to say. She did absolutely nothing in the episode other than say a couple of inconsequential lines. She might as well have been in the audience during the play.

Next episode should be the Starlight x Sunburst episode. Get your butts ready for the dankest of lore regarding those two characters.

Okay, sure, Starlight was in it but she didn’t do anything to steal the scene. Admittedly I don’t know why she was there. Not special effects, not stage props, not nothing. But she didn’t steal the scene. It was fine.
 
How about that Starswirl lore, though? Unicorns CAN lose their magic if they cast something magically draining enough.

Rarity made the costumes.

That was probably the first and last Celestia episode we’ll ever see. I was hoping it would be something more along the lines of Celestia being the one that learns something in an episode instead of someone else. But whatever, the character was never designed that way.
 
This is why I think Luna is superior. She can act as a role model as seen in the three CMC episodes where she enters their dreams. Or act as the character who learns something like that episode with the Tantabus. That’s called a multi-layered character.

This next episode is gonna be interesting because of how the ponies talked. There were parts where they didn’t talk like little girl cartoon characters. They talked like… women talking to other women… about women things…

I would still say its about divorce simply because its a more universal message.
 
The heritage thing is interesting but I see it from outside a North American perspective. From where I’m from, its very rare to see a person of mixed race parents. When I was a wee baby, the schools that I went to, you’ll never meet a classmate who’s had parents from another country. Not everyone lives in a multi cultural society.
 
Gender Identity? Not in a kids show with such a young demograph. They’ll show tolerance of it but not promote it. It involves money, politics and coverage. Hasbro doesn’t want the show banned in other countries.
 
That’s my two cents. If there is a metaphor, I’d say its more about divorce simply because more kids can relate to it and go through regardless of where they’re from or what their culture is.

Strange. You could also say its about land vs water or bird vs fish. But you have to consider a very important factor; “who is the target audience of this episode?” Is it sexually aware individuals? Or is it little kids who think the opposite gender is gross. I’m pretty sure the target audience has no sexual awareness yet let alone gender identity issues. The metaphor, if there is one, would strive to be relatable for its target audience.
 
Divorce is very stressful for kids. You can’t choose sides because you’re worried the other parent would feel betrayed. Teramar wasn’t worried about acceptance. He was worried about the feelings of the unchosen parent.

Was this the beach episode people were expecting? No ponies wearing bikinis.
 
Saw it in the leaks. The episode was ok. Its a world building episode for the “newest faction” added after the movie. The definition of “friendship problem” is odd. Teramar had a problem but its more like an internal dilemma. I guess you can stretch it and say the friendship problem was between SB and Scoots but that’s just grasping at straws.
 
I wonder why they didn’t use Silver Stream instead of introducing her brother for this episode. It would’ve been a great opportunity to flesh out a new character. It would have also placed a second layer on her because she’s happy all the time and then its discovered she acts happy to cover up problems. I guess we’ll never know.

Season 8 will have a villain, right? Do you guys think Starlight will reform the villain this season by saying she used to be a villain? Any bets?

I’m not saying there’s a conspiracy. I’ve seen giant corporations behave like this before in various industries and it usually involves aggressive intellectual property protection. As far as I know, Trixie has no G1 counterpart. She’s not like Spike who has past versions in older generations. So why is Hasbro so insistent on a specific image of Trixie?

Even people who don’t know this understand that Trixie was the OG Green Ranger. Meaning she should have been Twilight’s friendship student instead of Starlight from the start. It would’ve been a proper means to explore a character’s back story that was leaving bread crumbs since season 1.
