Season 8 Episode Discussion [Spoilers, possible leaks, rumours etc.]

Hasbro is very controlling of Trixie.
 
Originally Faust wanted the character male but then Hasbor intervened and said it has to be female.
 
The following is a quote from the wiki “According to Lauren Faust on Twitter, Trixie also attended Celestia’s School for Gifted Unicorns for Friendship is Magic Issue 40, Ted Anderson “had a line in an earlier version of the script in which Celestia greeted Trixie by name (”Welcome, Miss Lulamoon!”), but that was rejected by Hasbro, on the grounds that Trixie never went to the School for Gifted Unicorns”, and Brenda Hickey—remembering Faust’s statement and unaware of the rejection at the time—put Trixie in without being given any notes from Hasbro.”
 
I’m convinced this character is very special but I don’t really know why.

Faust commented that she would have liked to explore Trixie’s bitterness and jealously to drive the point she was basically what Twilight could have been if she had gone wrong.  
Anyone has that caption with all that what-could-have-been stuff about Trixie on it?

Even people who don’t know this understand that Trixie was the OG Green Ranger. Meaning she should have been Twilight’s friendship student instead of Starlight from the start. It would’ve been a proper means to explore a character’s back story that was leaving bread crumbs since season 1.

There’s no conspiracy man, and it wasn’t Hasbro. Trixie was male, but then Kathleen Barr made a great audition and the character was swapped to allow her to do the voice.
 
And for the first three seasons, pony didn’t do recurring characters with backstory, for the purpose of ease of access.
 
And the show kinda has done that plot. Amending Fences and No Second Prances.

I’m not saying there’s a conspiracy. I’ve seen giant corporations behave like this before in various industries and it usually involves aggressive intellectual property protection. As far as I know, Trixie has no G1 counterpart. She’s not like Spike who has past versions in older generations. So why is Hasbro so insistent on a specific image of Trixie?

Normally it’s because they have an episode planned in the future which will contradict that plot point. Though they’re obviously not very good at their jobs, Hasbro does have people who try and make sure the show, books and comics don’t contradict each other too much.

I don’t get the drama about her. They only revealed her father. Everything else is just the headcanons, and in reality Trixie and both of her parents may have a good relationship with her. They simply are following their own careers. Trixie is not that young to hang out with her parents.

Is anyone sincerely under the impression that Applejack would have been in any way bitter or angry about how this ended? That she would have been pissed that Rainbow Dash actually got to do what she came to do, and that she managed to have fun with her grannies whilst keeping them uninjured? That she’s such a shitty friend that she willfully agreed to cover Dash’s teaching duties for her just so that she could have a miserable time?

Depends on how accurate we’re supposed to take Dash’s hallucinations. Applejack was very adamant that Dash be very protective.
 
On the other hand Dash’s hallucinations did end with Applejack approving so…

Regardless, at that point, they’re returning home and all of AJ’s grannies are in one piece. There is literally nothing for her to be angry about unless she actually intended Dash to have a miserable time, which she didn’t.

I’m surprised that Applejack got so much hate from some fans for the last episode. We’ve known from past episodes that Applejack can get overprotective over her family members and loved ones.
 
Also, don’t think her list of rules she gave to RD was that unreasonable. While in Leap of Faith, Applejack did see that granny is able to do more activities than even she thought possible, but that doesn’t apply to the other 3 members.
 
While Applejack was still technically in the wrong and Rainbow shouldn’t have listen to the rules, it’s not a wrong decision that deserves so much hatred.

It’s important to keep in mind that most of Applejack’s lines in this episode weren’t actually Applejack, just what Rainbow Dash was imagining Applejack might say.

How is the season so far? I think it’s better than S6, but so far a definite downgrade from S7.

It’s decent. I just don’t like how most of the episodes are focused on the Mane 6 instead of the students.

I’d give it a so-so. I’m enjoying the episodes, but outside certain scenes (like Fluttershy’s in Fake It) I don’t see I’ll be watching over and over yet.

I don’t care about the Student Six getting their own episodes to be honest.
