MLP G5 Discussion and Speculation Thread

The lack of a new episode today is troubling with that recent “leak” drop.

Regardless on personal opinion on the actual quality of G5, I think we can all agree the way Hasbro has been handling this generation had been a mess

Enough. Now that’s enough. Ever since Cocks took over, it has been seen that G5 is constantly exposed to sabotage. TYT 2.0 has been paid for, so canceling means losing a lot of money. Nobody knows why or how it could have gone so wrong, but there are indications that someone very high up - perhaps the CEO of Hasbro himself - had intervened and created a mess that means that nothing goes as it should. In addition, Cocks has gotten into trouble after he had admitted the use of AI in Wizards of the Coast products - this indicates a dishonesty that had been absent in the past.

It should be said that there are now many MLP clones about magical horses/ponies coming out and these are gaining popularity because although several are based on plagiarism. Recently I was in a bookshop when I found a book - a children’s book with suspense, drama, action - any we would like - about a unicorn colt who is exposed to the wrath of a jealous god. To my shock, I saw real alicorns with divine powers in the book narrative. Alicorns. It’s not just there, in Japanese manga and elsewhere it is noticeable that impulses from G4/G5 have been brought in, there is an isekai manga about a Japanese artist who discovered a herd of unicorns and pegasi horses - and a few alicorns in the background.

This proves that there is a market out there. And Hasbro messes it up so others came along! Does Hasbro’s management want them to sell their My Little Pony rights or stick with them as losers?

There was a 21-day hiatus before the first special. But overreacting and overanalyzing is easier for this fandom, right? I wouldn’t blame Hasbro for not wanting anything to do with us.

Us not getting a new episode today also creates an inconsistency…why are the alleged last three episodes not getting released biweekly as everything’s claimed? If Hasbro themselves as recently as two days ago told a fan in private that the finale was coming on the 17th of October…

As i mentioned before what the leaks suggest is exactly what happened to eqg

I wonder how things would have been had Hasbro kept using Boulder Media for the MYM series. They originally had the directors and Imalou attached to the project after all.

I think all that really would have changed is at least some of the movie actors would have returned. As Ireland doesn’t have any laws on irish citizenship in their productions

Replacing all voice actors after the movie was something established very early in development, if the leaked emails from December 2017 are any indication. Hasbro probably never thought otherwise.

It’s worth noting that TYT has always tried to align its airdates with other stuff. It always tried to line up with MYM chapter drops, not always successfully but pretty remarkably close. We had that unexplained hiatus before the first special, and it ended up dropping a week before the Boardtrot’s first IDW appearance. That was probably some deliberate brand synergy.

The problem is TYT has nothing to synergize with anymore, so the schedule is up in the air until they find out what anyone else is doing.

there’s the Storm of Zephyr Heights comic in the next few weeks that could be connected, ok it’s something more because it connects the g4 and g5 timeline but there had to be an explanation for this like it was in the idw 20th anniversary comic and now in the 25th

Did you expect the original actors to keep voicing their characters? It’ll not would have been super expensive, but it’ll would have been a logistics nightmare.

I mean Hasbro/Netflix probably had enough money to have them on for after the movie.

Plus several of the movie cast already work with Netflix too (Kimiko Glenn already had a lot of live-action and voice over roles there)

On that note, I really liked Set Your Sail, and I want to talk about it.

Like in ANG, Izzy steals the show. Like her counterpart in G4, Izzy is curious, optimistic, and on her own wavelength, meaning she picks up on things that others miss. Along with Detective Zipp, they’re the perfect characters for a story about deception and details. I absolutely love how much thought went into The Ersatz Enchantment; both for how it would be used, and for how it ties into the themes of the story. There’s this persistent motif showing how the lies are slowly destroying what’s important.

The parallels between Zephyr Heights during ANG, and The Sparkling Sea are great. You have the generational lie that the queen needs to uphold. But where Queen Haven was mostly about keeping the citizens distracted, Queen Calla Lily had an emphasis on erasing anything that disagreed with her. I like the contrast between Pipp in this and ANG; instead of being a tool for the establishment, she becomes a voice for the resistance.

Next, the worldbuilding implications are really cool. I love the idea that other civilizations have been picking up Pipp’s broadcasts. The nature of The Anchors gives the world more nuance; unity is great, but some things aren’t meant to be unified and controlled.

I really liked the environments and character design. And it’s always great to see a positive relationship between Zipp and Queen Haven.

Overall, the more I think about Set Your Sail, the more I find things to appreciate about it. Makes me want to read more of the comics.
