Glad this person gets that the cruel treatment G5 was given had nothing to do with it “being bad”.
It is as I had said. Something was wrong, and it’s not with the workers behind the G5, the G5 itself or anything - but what is very aptly called “corporate fumbles” - it seems that there had been unrealistic expectations that led to uncontrolled downsizing until these ended up on the cancellation line today.
Unfortunately, Disney+ was not attractive - Hasbro and Disney are competitors - but it is clear that Netflix has a very serious problem that had become very harmful to G5’s long-term viability. It was not smart to bet on MYM and TYT, the idea was to have an advertising effect with free screenings to lure people over to the expensive series, but it went wrong in the end. It is obvious that things had been anything but tidy around Boulder Media, eOne and Atomic Cartoons - and that is not only due to the financial difficulties. Covid had of course done a lot of damage, and it continues to do so. But as I said, the damage could be limited - and it had not been done.
What is very appalling is that the G5 was not fully invested in the toy front - this may be due to financial difficulties, but it does mean that further investment in the G5 will then produce a minimal return beyond the entertainment front, and there had poor script quality and serious limitations on content an earthquake effect. Instead of correcting the situation, Cocks had chosen to invest elsewhere, anyone who has followed the toy front knows that there is an upswing in toys from there - just not in the traditional places. This may indicate a reluctance.
“ - I’m honestly scared Hasbro are giving up on MLP after this, that we mightnt get a G6 at all, all because they were afraid to try new things - “
Cocks will bet on gaming, “kidadults” and new strategy, but it has been noticed that he seems more questionable than early as a decisive leader who has far too many things to keep track of, Hasbro is too big when it comes to brands. There are almost twenty brands from Action Man to Transformers, and that’s with a smaller budget than before. MLP ended up being the loser because the G5 came out at a critical time between the end of Covid and the energy recession started by the Russians (the Germans need to take responsibility, they are in serious trouble because they were so stupid with their energy policy), just when it all started to fall apart.
We could understand why MYM had to be shut down. We could understand low budget. We could understand the need to extend the time with TYT until 2025. But we cannot understand bad management. Because that seems to be the main problem.
There were supposed to be 100 TYT episodes, we only get 25. Instead of taking courage, these chose to be cowards and drag out the time as long as possible, keeping everyone - fans, customers, workers, investors, other companies - for fools until it burst. They should have been open with their cancellation decision as early as February or early in the year. Instead, we had to be put on the torture bench for half a year. This is formidable customer service - NOT!
It is time for those in power to ponder the whole matter surrounding the current management at Hasbro, Microsoft employees do not have a good reputation for transparency in dealing with the public. And this is the biggest problem; since autumn 2022, there had been incredibly little transparency for almost two years!
