MLP G5 Discussion and Speculation Thread

I’m doing a little digging. Hasbro’s initial deal with Netflix expired in 2022, and since then they’ve been gradually moving all their stuff to Paramount+. A New Generation came out during the original deal and most everything else at least began production during that time, but everything after the movie came out after the deal had expired.
Since G5 launched so close to the end of the deal with most of it debuting afterwards, maybe Netflix insisted that they be guaranteed a certain number of episodes before it all goes away. Maybe TYT’s purpose was always just to technically fulfill the contract so Hasbro can pull out.

There we go. A nice, concrete statement.

That’s too bad. Hopefully we get more comics.

As much as this really, really sucks, at least we finally got official confirmation. Farewell, Tell Your Tale.

Probably worth remembering that Generations does not refer to the shows

Considering how Hasbro has downplayed the term “Generations” in favour of “Universes” in Transformers, I think we might see the same case in MLP.

If my Netflix theory is right, maybe that’s also why the “normal” 2D G5 show we were all expecting never materialized. Hasbro couldn’t make it without giving it to Netflix, and they didn’t want any new projects in Netflix’s hands. So they decided not to commit to any new projects until TYT churned out just enough episodes to release them from the Netflix contract.

Yeah but like, no more shows this generation.
And it’s kinda up in the air whether the comics are going to continue.
The merch is nice and all but it’ll be a disappointment if that’s the only thing left.

I am glad that they didn’t announce a discontinuing of G5, makes sense with no G6 coming soon as far as we know. I’m keeping my expectations low, but I will say I feel it would be cool to see more of G5 in an MLP “universe”.

I never really understood why people were expecting the main g5 show to be 2d When the movie was the pilot.

Universes is something that sounds better than Generations.

Definitely feel MYM’s coming off of Netflix after 2024 ends. We now have all of Chapter 2 available to watch on YouTube.

Well, that may mean (I assume) that even IDW is uncertain. It’s likely that they may continue g5, but it depends on if Hasbro wants them to.

Cool that they’re putting episodes on YouTube after being only on Netflix for so long! You can watch all of MYM at ponylove.cc and mlp.heartshine.gay too :)

Least the good thing is they didn’t cancel G5.
I’m not getting my hopes high. Some of the VAs came out to say their goodbyes. I’ll be overflown with joy if they somehow continue the G5 storyline, but again, not setting my hopes high

Because 2D is cheaper. And Hasbro did have some 2D designs that appeared in early promotional materials before vanishing off the face of the Earth.

The plot thickens. I think I figured it out. Because Netflix knew Hasbro would be moving elsewhere after their 10-year deal expired in 2022, they cut a new deal for a certain number of episodes of all shows put together. Until that episode number was hit, Netflix was going to have automatic rights to any new G5 shows even if they debuted after the old 10-year deal ended. Otherwise they were just going to end up with the movie and not much else. So Hasbro fed them just enough 5 minute episodes to hit that episode number, so now the deal is satisfied and Netflix can’t claim any G5 projects going forward.
