Figured out one thing so far. First, if I just upload the pencil sketch straight out of the scanner it is so washed out in the thumbnail here that it’s invisible. Pic related:

But, I’ll be playing along with the home version of Inktober, so I plan to fix that in the next month for a lot of those sketches. It will be interesting to see if the inked and colored versions get more feedback.

Today I was trying to figure out hair. Specifically Adagio’s hair. It is … voluminous. To call her hair “ample” would be like calling Arnold Schwarzenegger’s physical appearance as he appeared in Conan The Barbarian “Adequate”.

Also trying experiments with styles of eyes.

Lessons learned. More on the image’s description. So much more. If you go there brace for blah blah blah.

I drawed a thing!

I may have broken a couple anatomy rules there with the ribcage/spine/hip bones thing. But it was fun to draw so I’m not completely worried. I’ll just draw more to see if I get it to ‘settle down’ for me.

… On a personal note, I finally figured out what I’m doing wrong with drawingthe fingers! I’m adding an extra joint! Human hands only have the knuckle and then just 2 joints!

Huh. Who knew!?

In my own defense, I am currently re-reading “Use Of Weapons” by Iain Banks. And in this book as I’m sure you are all familiar, one of the main characters, Diziet Sma, has an extra joint in her fingers which makes it sometimes difficult for her to pass as a Human. So naturally everything I draw now has extra long fingers because apparently that’s something I internalized and then immediately practiced.

When I asked for a copy of Use Of Weapons at my local bookbroker in Bournemouth, the friendly proprietor warned me the book would … and I quote …

… and cautioned me against having anything to do with it.

I did not listen to his advice. Little did I realize it would take almost twenty years for me to feel the pain!
