There is a huge difference between me saying that “your bowl looks wonky, here’s what you can do to improve on your art” and friendly advice, “Hey, the way this is presented comes off as offensive to some Asian circles. Just a heads up”.

No one here is being mean. I’m just giving a small tip if you’re posting the art in a public space, and you don’t want others to point that faux-pas out.

You didn’t do anything wrong, Man. I was nice enough to post an article to at least back up what I said. They just overreacted.

The image itself is fine, it’s just unintentionally … bad … because it’s burdened by hugely negative cultural connotations. One way to fix the ‘unintentionally bad’ part is to simply move the chopsticks.

Flat, on the side, in front of, and even laying on the edge of the bowl with the tips inside the bowl completely removes any negative connotations.

The highlights on their eyes is incredible - are you using a latex pen or white out or something like that?

Your scanner/digitizing process seems to be giving you super heavy shadows, and some … I can’t remember the name for it - the darker near the edges stuff. Is that an artifact of your media? Or are you using a camera?

That’s a digital alteration - I just take paint.net and use white color fill to make them more visible.

That’s a camera. I use A3 paper for drawing and that doesn’t fit in the scanner I have.

Not to revisit the chopstick issue, but it does make me wonder about intentional culturally inappropriate or offensive but otherwise non-suggestive nor sexual artwork and where to showcase them.

Because I do, do them. I assume those go in the NSFW art thread?

If it’s not safe for work because of any reason, yes - please use the NSFW thread. But if it’s intentionally offensive based on culture, be careful you’re not going to hit Rule #0.

If it’s not gore, sexually explicit, or physically abusive it could be posted here. But as Ciaran said, careful that you don’t rile too many feathers and accept that the art is going to get some attention if folks point something out that’s off about it.
