Seem like the writers have already chosen a path they want to take. It doesn’t involve Sombra but they don’t want him as a loose end either so they went with this role for him. The series is ending. Expect more of this stuff from other characters. Remember Zuko’s mom from Legend of Aang? I don’t. I think she was explored in different media later on, though.

I wonder how kids would react to watching this S9 premier. The pacing was amazing. Meaning it was all over the place. I turned away for a second and when I turned back, something else was happening. I can’t blame them. They wanted to get rid of all paragon types like Celestia and Luna and even Starswirl got in on it. The only scene with purpose was Discord’s. They should’ve just stuck with that. That magical blast scene could’ve been better by just setting all the ponies free from Sombra’s control instead of vaporizing him. And then let the recovered ponies force Sombra to retreat. But I guess they didn’t want to keep him for the rest of the season. Shame though. I saw him as a Starscream to Grogar’s Megatron.

I wonder when they’ll announce that Shining Armor episode where its revealed he’s the father of several changeling broods concieved when Chrysalis was disguised as Cadence.

MLP is still leagues above the new stuff that’s coming out right now. I’d say it tried to be Ducktales 2017 before Ducktales 2017. I mean its not like the creators and VAs of the show are attacking its fans on social media. S9 will be fine.

It doesn’t need to be too on the nose. An episode where Firelight and Stellar Flare visit as the main story but with a running gag of asking for grand foals among other things.
It sounds predictable but you know what they say about time tested formulas. Cliches become cliched because they can bear repetition.
Meanwhile I just hope we get a Starburst episode with Starlight and Sunburst becoming a couple by the end of the season.

I agree with this a lot. I once posted a “what if” scenario that Starlight was using illusion magic in Our Town to make herself look adult but in reality is really CMC age. She would not only act as a little sister to Twilight in the same arrangement as Scoot is to RD, AB is to AJ and Sweetie Belle to Rarity but it would also make fans not hate her. That one single detail removes the 6th ranger syndrome from her.

Hm. This season has been all sorts of strange. Just for the record, no, I don’t think Rockhoof’s self imposed turn to stone thing was suicide. It was literally just as it is. Self banishment.
Suicidal people won’t ask other people’s help to kill themselves. They do it silently without anyone knowing because they know people will stop them. Sometimes they leave a note, sometimes they don’t. I know this because a friend/boss of mine was placed on suicide watch due to chronic depression after his wife died. He wasn’t allowed to be left by himself for fear that he might take his own life.

Lickety Split and Spike were my favorite G1 characters. Though MLP wasn’t considered “cool” back then, it was a cult thing at least among toy collectors.

You guys think 8th season of the series is great, wait till season 9 starts. There will be humans on the show in season 9. Not those “non canon” EqG characters but humans allegedly from the real world like they had in G1. I know this because I’m smarter than all y’all.

According to Twilight, she compared Starlight and Trixie’s friendship to her’s and Cadence’s friendship. You know what that means. Trixie is going to marry Starlight’s brother. But Starlight doesn’t have a brother… Or does she?

Kirin episode is good. Fells like a stand alone adventure episode that fits G1’s theme. Maybe its because it doesn’t focus on the strange concept of a friendship school.

Has anyone thought about what criteria needs to be met before a character gets “redeemed?” I’m no including Luna or Stygian because it seems like the show treats those two as mind controlled characters.
- Discord was a villain because he used his chaos powers to harass ponies. He had no grudge, he didn’t want to rule, he didn’t want to destroy and he didn’t want power. He was just annoying. Reluctantly redeemed. I think it was Celestia’s idea.
- Starlight didn’t care if she destroys the world as long as she gets revenge on others. “If my life can’t be better than yours then I’m gonna make your lives worse than mine.” Reluctantly redeemed. It was Twilight’s idea because she was too dangerous to just let her leave.
- Trixie was heckled upon performing in Ponyville developing a grudge towards the main cast. She did horrible things to the town. Twilight did not want to redeem her. Was only redeemed because Starlight vouched for her.
- Chrysalis wanted to harvest food for her brood to live. Ponies could have died because of what she was trying to do. Was given the choice for redemption by Starlight but rejected it. Instead, developed a grudge to cause more harm to the main cast.
- Tirek wanted power and to rule the land. He didn’t want to destroy but he wanted to be the most powerful. Was never given the chance for redemption and is immediately banished.
- Flim Flam bros trick ponies with scams to make money for themselves. They do not seek power or destruction, just questionably easy money. Just like Trixie, Twilight is biased towards them and believes they are not worth offering friendship to. No redemption.
- Sombra. Tyranical and wanted to rule. Caused ponies misery. I can understand why he was never redeemed. There wasn’t any opportunity. The ponies probably didn’t even know the Crystal Heart would kill him.
I think I’m missing a few but for me, in fiction, villains don’t get redeemed by the heroes. The villain themselves do something to redeem themselves first and then the hero decides to give them a chance. For me that’s the easiest criteria for redemption.
