There would be no sense of danger for the viewer if he was as in control of situation as in S9 Premiere. He NEED to be disabled in a serious way in order for Grogar to actually become a menace.

But he can just remove himself. It’s something he’s done more than once. Neutralizing Discord is not a necessity for a good finale, there’s all sorts of reasons he wouldn’t help. Yeah, he’d save his precious shyhorse if things get out of control, but that’s all he’s obligated to do as a character.

Thread Starter - Artists you miss.

Well Discord was unable to escape Tirek’s grasp once he had the mane five’s magic I imagine Grogar if sufficiently powerful might trap him in some orb much like Jafar trapped Genie in in Return of Jafar, since presumably he can’t absorb his magic like Tirek could. Not sure about a musical number.

This is the last finale Finale. And Grogar is the most powerfull main threat. It woudn’t make sense for Discord to step aside because:  
  1. He already made a point in S1 Premiere and he already knows Mane6 are confident without him. So he might as well help them out now.  
  2. Grogar defeating Mane6 and Princesses will not affect the viewer if everyone knows Discord can wipe a floor with him. He would be as respected as Sombra. And he wasnt very respected.  
  3. It would make zero sense for Grogar to even attempt doing naything to mane6 and Fluttershy if he already knows Discord is around and watch over her.
     
     
    However you paint it. It is neccesary for writers to disable him. Both from story perspective and for the sake of making an exciting ending.

I would agree in any other case. Not in the last Finale. Were talking about a huge Avengers EndGame finale in which dragons, gryphons, yaks, changelings, ponies, hippogrifs, pillars of equestria, alicorns and every possible ally will probably take a part in finale battle. It is not a place or time for Discord to play games or Q. I am very convinced he will play a part even if he doesn’t want to, because Grogar isn’t that stupid to ignore him.

Majority of it is nitpicking. And some barely makes any sense. Like “ Discord could easily defeat Sombra, but chooses instead to fake being hurt as a means to motivate the Mane 6 to handle it on their own. Something that he did throughout the episode.”

Exactly! They should have either had Jim voice Sombra again, or went to extra mile to get James Earl Jones to voice Sombra.
 
I mean his March on Canterlot was a almost exact copy of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader and the 501st Legions march on the Jedi Temple.
 
Heck, even Frank Welker would have been a great choice.

Sombra was delightfully cheesy. I’m not too bent up over his portrayal because the episode’s purpose was to frame him as an ineffective villain on his own to prove Grogar’s point

Yeah. That’s why I didn’t like it.
 
They made him the way he was simply for the plot with no evidence in the story to reveal both the change in voice and personality.
 
Similar to the Mane 6 completely forgetting that they themselves are the Elements.
