Hey y’all, name’s Strange Kitten. Here to help you navigate through this difficult time. I have key advantages many others don’t. I’m disabled, and as such, able to devote my time to following things closely. I also have a mole - my mom is a Trump supporter and, while she’s banned from X, she does follow things over on “Truth” Social. Thus, I’m able to get a lot of insights into the MAGA perspective while being on the opposite side myself. It honestly feels like my life has been a lead-up to this time, with so much in favour of me being able to help people through it.
You guys aren’t the only people I’ve seen feeling despair and fear. Know that you’re not alone in those feelings.
But, let’s put on our thinking caps and try to look at things logically. I don’t think they’re going to be successful in going after anyone who isn’t an undocumented immigrant because undocumented immigrants are the only class of people not protected by the Constitution. And trying to amend the Constitution is near impossible at this point - It requires a two-thirds majority in Congress or at a national convention to propose an amendment, and a three-fourths majority of state legislatures or state conventions to ratify it. So, despite how dire things seem, I think worrying about anyone other than undocumented immigrants being rounded up is really jumping the shark. I hate that they’re going after undocumented immigrants as it is, but the people who were born here are protected by the Constitution itself.
Pushback is growing. Some places are refusing to go after undocumented immigrants. So this fight alone is likely not going to be smooth sailing for Trump, and could very well be enough to exhaust him. Trump and Musk are people who are used to always getting their way. They’re about to find out that ain’t so easy when it comes to governing. There are a lot of roadblocks that will stand.
Things appear scary at the moment, because everyone is currently in alignment with Trump. That won’t last. He couldn’t keep the White House staffed during his first term, and the vast majority of people who worked for him quit, turned around and said he was awful. And that’s gonna happen again. Trump doesn’t just push the buttons of the vulnerable - he pushes the buttons of everyone. Eventually, a conflict of interest will arise and there will be fighting. I just read an article about how far behind Musk is of his lofty goal to cut 2 trillion, and he looked absolutely exhausted. Even he will leave eventually. And maybe that’ll lead to better things long-term. Musk and Zuckerberg are on the far-right and allow far-right hate speech on their platforms. Imagine what could happen when they, as well as their users, get put off by all the awfulness. Dare I say, they may just stop and change their ways.
Know also, that midterm elections and the 4-year-term-limit are Constitutionally enshrined. So, many of you are scared that Trump and/or Vance will be president forever? Not gonna happen. A blue tsunami in 2026, though? The second the election was over, people began searching for “What are tariffs” and “Can I change my vote?” The regret is already there, and it’s only going to increase as grocery prices don’t go down. So the odds of Democrats being able to take a big step in in a couple years are looking good.
Recall that after Bush Jr’s second term, we got Obama. The gay marriage debate used to be a hot-button issue, until Obama made it federally legal. After Trump’s first term? Biden stepped in and immediately said trans rights. So hold onto hope and try not to give into despair. Things will get ugly, but past precedent says they will get better afterwords.
