I don’t know, Smithy wasn’t so bad besides being a bit of a typical “must take over world” villain. I kinda liked his powers, and how his minions were basically anthropomorphic weapons. Plus his boss music (both phases) were pretty good.
 
Frankly, I thought the bosses were pretty good in SMRPG. They might not have as much personality as TTYD’s wonderfully hammy bosses, but they had some cool designs, and original ones. (And the Axem Rangers & such were quite amusing.)

I felt the villains were pretty lackluster in terms of impact in SMRPG, honestly. Smithy got talked about a lot, but he didn’t really do much other than have a tantrum and then get killed when you meet him.
 
Personally, I liked TTYD’s story the best.

Kinda dark in a way too. Though, there’s a lot more to the storyline then that, with collecting the star pieces, and meeting many NPCs who need help.

Boss battle theme plays
 
Don’t you just like those boss battles where the battle music begins playing near the end of boss dialogue just before the battle, instead of beginning right on the beginning of the battle?

There is a lot of lore and backstory between each of the villian characters in “Super Paper Mario” that it’s almost hard for me to keep track of and sometimes difficult to understand. I pretty much understood the Shadow Queen’s lore and history; how she originally created the Seven Crystal Stars from her own powers, how she was defeated by four other people, etc. I really need to get back to learning more about Count Bleck’s Army.

Yes, it’s overall story is much darker. But the Shadow Queen easily has the largest death toll. Sure || Count Bleck wiped an entire dimension from existence before his defeat, but it was returned to normal in the end.||
