@Donald J. Trump
“We made you” - tagline of straight rights. Applies accurately to every person to ever live thus far, pretty much.
Joking, of course. I don’t know if there’s even a straight rights movement - given how there’s 300 million people in the US, I’d be surprised if there wasn’t, but I have no idea what their actual tagline is, if they have one.
@Donald J. Trump
and actually, only 9 straight ships have been featured, while have 19.7k safe images.
Is anyone fighting for equal straight representation in the derpsphere?
@arcanedarness
“Uh, there’s about 10K gay images and 40K lesbian images (and as already said 17 featured lesbian and 1 featured gay). I would have guessed a ratio even smaller for the gay images (like one for each 10 lesbian images). I’m happy to be wrong in this case.”
18.8k safe images for lesbian
1.2k safe gay images
in other words, lesbian images, according to the actual data, are actually underrepresented in the LGBT featured pone sphere.
Hopefully you make note of this in future image calculations
@LunarChow
I was not saying that the admins use the sexual orientation depicted in the drawings as criteria. I wanted to say that their sexual preference could influence the results.
If the personal preferences of the staff were expressed in the featured image, trust me, you wouldn’t get a predominantly straight result.
The featured image is about highlighting amazing artists and incredible images, particularly those that slipped by unnoticed when they were originally uploaded.
Not everyone has been here since Season 1, and the featured image is a glance back into the history - particularly the otherwise unnoticed but still remarkable images - that this fandom has created.
@LunarChow
Sorry, I apparently expressed myself wrong. I was not saying that the admins use the sexual orientation depicted in the drawings as criteria. I wanted to say that their sexual preference could influence the results. If the admins suggest the images between the ones they know or like, they can be influenced by their sexual preferences without this being a criterion and without ill intent or even perceiving it (i.e. in a completely unintentional way).
In other words, I was saying that the admin innate interests affect what images they know and how much they value them. If every admins scrutinize every image that is uploaded in the site, independently from appealing or not to their interests, and use objective criteria, then what I was saying would probably be wrong.
@arcanedarness
It doesn’t have to do with our sexual preference. It’s just coincidentally a m/m image hasn’t been featured until now.
Diversity in genders and whether they’re gay or lesbian isn’t something we think about when choosing them.
We pay more attention to the artist since that’s what featured images are for
Uh, there’s about 10K gay images and 40K lesbian images (and as already said 17 featured lesbian and 1 featured gay). I would have guessed a ratio even smaller for the gay images (like one for each 10 lesbian images). I’m happy to be wrong in this case.
Now I would guess that the mods are hetero man (and/or lesbian woman), or for some reason there’s less gay images (than lesbian images) that fit the criteria to be featured. The first seems more probable. Yet, the gay being less common on the community can mean less works with the same level of quality.
Not really criticizing anything, I only like to look at numbers and try to formulate hypothesis.
Unhapilly, I don’t know any metrics for cuteness, but I assure you that if they don’t give a high value for this image, then the metrics don’t work as they should.
@Draco_2k
You should take in count that the amount of Solo, Straight and Lesbian draws are extremely higher than the amount of gay draws, therefore statistically speaking it’s completely acceptable that the space between one featuring to another is higher.
How was this not featured? Three years ago? Come on!
@Cirrus Light
My guess is that it’s just a carry-over from the real world. Western society in general has somehow developed the double standard of “Lesbian = Hot, Gay = Gross”. Guys feel comfortable expressing this hypocritical view on facebook or in the office, so they feel they can do so here.
Guess again, fuckers.
@Nittany Discord
The most important quality for a politician is to be able to convince bitter enemies with incompatible worldviews that they’re on the “right” side and against the “wrong” one. By being a hypocrite, you attract the largest possible support base. It’s simply the most viable strategy.
Same goes for religion. Both saint and sinner can look at any given holy book and be absolutely convinced that god is on their side, no matter how puppy-hugging wonderful or infant-killing horrible they are. So you have some Christians attacking gays because that’s what god wants, and you have other Christians defending gays because that’s what god wants.
