@Gnot Even
Hmm, good point. Like, until very recently, China may almost as well have been a different planet from Europe, as far as the average person was concerned, for example.
I will ponder that.
Aww shit, you’re right. Welp, painted myself into a corner there, didn’t I?
Still not sure you’re totally stuck. Sonata says “from our home” not “from a forbidden foreign planet”. Aren’t there places which aren’t the main part of Equestria but are still “native” like Tartarus or whereever it was the Storm King came from? I guess it depends on how “native” they need to be - if they need to be native to the same town as Smoothie et al there’s not much you can do.
Well, for more recent mentions of the Sirens place of origin, there’s a conversation between Luna and Sonata in part 55. BTW, the timeline and chapter lists on the website are out of date.
@Stellarator
Fair enough. I suppose I’m just one for a straight forward approach. The only other idea I have would be Twilight accidentally giving the world a Genesis Wave reboot after messing up a massive spell, like what happened in the episode that made her an Alicorn. The Archie Sonic comics also did something similar, but on a bigger scale. When a Genesis Wave happens, everything comes out of it similar, but also changed in some way. Such a thing could rewrite the lore
Seems like you have to play with the word “world” a little bit. “Our world” could mean another planet (*), or it could just mean another time and place, like Europe is another world compared to the USA.
That seems like a bit of a stretch of the words. XD
(now I’ve got the Science Fiction Double Feature song in my mind: “Anne Francis stars in Forbidden Planet…”)
You could try making an extra page explaining the retcon. I recall in a manga there was a character that the manga creators couldn’t decide if was male or female. One issue they were obviously a guy, the next they had more feminine features, and it just went back and forth. Until one day the released a page that specified the character had been solidified as a male. And then the character pointed to the viewers and said he was a guy, and to deal with it.
I mean, no shade to that author, because you do what you have to do, but that sort of thing does seem kind of like a last resort; just directly info-dumping at the readers. I’d ideally prefer to do something more subtle if I can.

I think I want to find a way to weasel out of that one little detail.

Technically the Sirens were only from another world in Equestria Girls. I think in this continuity, they’re native. Just really old. And while they were functionally immortal, I recall Twilight saying that they’re starting to age like normal ponies since their gems were broken.
No, they’re not native. See Part 3, page 2, panel 6. Although I do remember Stellarator was sort of thinking about retconning that… Edit: Someone could go through the series and find all the references to this in the series, but that would be a pretty big job.
Yeah, I did mention them being from elsewhere super early on, and I wish I hadn’t, and I think I want to find a way to weasel out of that one little detail. I wasn’t thinking what I wanted to do with worldbuilding as thoroughly at the time.

This thread has me wondering about the other characters now. Here we see Peach is an only child. What about Smoothie, does he have siblings (we know he at least has a cousin, which implies also an Aunt and Uncle). And by the transitive principle, we know the same about JB. Does Green Dude have siblings? He seems like he might be another only child (and also maybe not close to his parents).
I am tickled that anyone is interested enough to think about my characters that much. <3
Son presents romantic partner who kind of looks old enough to possibly be YOUR partner.
???
Happy family.
I mean… that “???” is basically what this episode is about. Well, and the next one.
And not just does she look older than him, but she does look like Bad News. Especially for a somewhat naive, sensitive boy like Peach.
If Ruby knew that Adagio was also a monster from another world who was functionally immortal, I wonder how that would affect the outcome.
I know for me it would just mean more “Ok. Let’s talk all night long about this because holy cow what? Tell me more!”
Stay tuned for part 63! ;)
2ldr: looking forward to more ^_^
Yay! More coming soon! Hopefully after less of a delay this time.

I mean, I envision her caring a great deal. It (as will be established by a comment next page) has been in the family for at least a couple of generations. It’s just that even if she values it…she values her son and his happiness infinitely more.
So she might nudge and encourage him towards wanting to take it over after she is gone, hoping he will take to it, but wouldn’t dream of trying to force him into it if it will make him unhappy.
But right now he’s only 18 and has other things (mostly Adagio) on his mind, so there will be ample time for that later.
@Stellarator
The Mentally Advanced series by Dawn Somewhere (basically, Greg) handled this in a fascinating way during their series. AppleJack was really obsessed about having to find someone to marry who actually wanted to run the farm and orchard, and had given up looking for someone to love. She just wanted to find someone to give her kids and keep the farm running. The idea of the farm not continuing never occurred to her. It would. Somehow.
But, in this story, it seems Ruby is primarily concerned with Peach’s happiness.
If she were worried about the Vineyard, she wouldn’t have distinguished that Peach is a PERSON, and the Vineyard is just a thing.
So, I don’t get any impression that Ruby is even thinking about the Vineyard’s survival.
She seems to only be thinking about Peach’s happiness, and just doesn’t want him living in a van down by the river with a stoned rocker and her sisters.
@Stellarator
To be honest, yes. Peach does seem potentially inclined to one day take over his family business. Even if he hasn’t said so. He was not only raised in the winery, he chose to seek employment in a bar, where he met Adagio. And he hasn’t been afraid to deal with a situation head on. He’s sweet and naive. But he’s also a hard worker. He’s also young. So it would likely be decades before he’d have to run the winery anyway.
And yes, I do agree it seems like with MLP couples that have magically spawned children, it only seems to be lesbian couples. But to be fair, those that I saw still involved one of the mares being pregnant. So even if it were a stallion couple, they’d still need the help of a mare.
Depends what you mean by running. I could see Peach as a very successful vintner, skillfully blending different varietals and vintages to have award winning wines.
As for handling the finances and the staff, Dagi can take care of it.
Does Peach seem like the sort of pony who would either inclined towards or temperamentally suited for running the family business?

(man, the wifi in this hotel would make a 56k modem look fast. Remind me to leave them a 0 star review.)
@Stellarator
Alright then. The vineyard leaving the family would be a pretty big deal then. Hopefully they have some sort of relative the vineyard can pass to then.
@Paaaad
I haven’t fleshed out all of the backstory 100% yet, but definitely several at least. How that will shape up…may be ultimately beyond the scope of this comic, but I find it an interesting subject. It may come up.

Yeah. That’s something I’ve been thinking about. But like I said, not sure if that’s good WWBA material or not. XD
