Ahuizotl actually makes a lot more sense to me as a guardian creature than as a supervillain. If he were a villain regularly plotting evil schemes, you’d expect a lot more ponies to have noticed his existence, or for Celestia to have done something about him. It makes much more sense if he only ever bothers these two for stealing his artifacts.

And yes, Fluttershy is impressive in this episode, reformed two villains at the same time, well if I count the henchstallions, then it’s 5.

To be fair, I don’t think many ponies actually live in the valley.

In the end, I wouldn’t say Ahuizotl was reformed. Rather, ponies just aren’t out to steal his shit and wreck his home anymore.
 
I’m sure he’d happily tie somebody up over lava if they did it again.

So basically Ahuizotl is Knuckles the Echidna watching over the sacred artifacts like the Master Emerald.

I can accept it I guess, but it feels weak.

“Unrelenting heat” = too hot for adventurers = no more stolen artifacts = protection

I will admit the continuity is questionable but I still think if the writers did not watch the continuity would be much worse than this. see people on this site get continuity wrong.

Maybe the unrelenting heat was what whoever built the temple meant for it to do all along, whether for good or bad, and Ahuizotl was tasked with making sure it still did that. Now if that was a good thing or bad thing probably didn’t matter to him, he still needed to keep it doing what it was meant to do unless he wanted to be punished by the guardians.
 
But that’s just my interpretation.

The writers should have watched the older episodes to make the whole “hevis a good guy“ convincing and not looking like a bad excuse

In S2 he was told from a story perspective, in S4 Caballeron sold him the ring, meaning he probably lost it, in the chapter book Daring Do and the Ethernal Flower he was chasing after the said plant to grant him immortality (book perspective again). He also appears in a comic book trying to stop Fluttershy and Do from aquiring the treasure of Queen Parabola. While he is antagonistic, he is hardly “pure evil”.  
Ok, the 800 years of sweltering head is kinda… maybe we just didn’t get the context?

I had to google it and yes, Scarface was in the cinema a few years before I was born. It’s good to know that I’m not one of the oldest mlp fans XD
 
They most likely won’t but it’s still very weird that they turned him from a “super villain” to a good guy without even explaining why he tried to destroy/control the world

Yep because one episode is all that matters on whether or not the season is Canon.  
im getting so tired of people saying that the new writers did not watch the show because the continuity is not perfect.  
I remember in season 1 they said Ponyville was founded hundreds of years ago but in the next season by the same writer it was when Granny Smith was a filly she would need to be over 200 years old for that to work

That once more proves that season 9 isn’t canon at all because the current writers never watched the older seasons.  
Ahuizotl is NOT a protector. Both, season 2 and 4 showed him as a villain who wants to destroy/control the world by using the artifacs, not protecting them. You could say that, in season 2, Daring Do misunderstood everything and wrote down what she thought for the truth, but in season 4 he actually appeared and he was not protecting but trying to use the artifacts

I can accept Caballeron reforming, but Ahuizotl as well is really pushing it.
