Mind you, this map was posted in the middle of 2011. Months before season 2, and WAY before the Crystal Empire.  
The fandom wasn’t even a year old yet.

This map was meant to be part of a huge fanfic/universe exploring the world that Equestria is in. Unfortunately, other than a few pictures and a short prologue, it doesn’t appear to have ever panned out.

That hole north of Eden appears to be where the world is disappearing into. And from it, these “Ley Lines” are being produced that appears to be engulfing much of the surrounding world.

Like any vast fantasy maps, they never seem to show places beyond a certain point.  
But they’ll show the names and geography of numerous out lying areas they will never actually visit, but will mention briefly in the main series.

This is still THE coolest map I have ever seen. I keep going back to it because just looking at all the places fills me with a sense of adventure and wonder at what races and lands those could be that are labeled here.

Glorious “amateur” days of the fandom when much of the lore and setting of the series weren’t so fleshed out. The fandom naturally went wild with creative ideas of what their world would hypothetically look like.

That’s actually pretty close to where I would place these things if this map were updated for current canon. I’d probably stick the Crystal and Yaket mountains across the “neck” connecting the main continent with that northern lobe; the Peaks of Peril and Mount Aris I’d put where you did. Klugetown I’d put in the deserts and mountains south and west of the Broken Leylands as well. Griffonstone of course would be somewhere in the Griffon Kingdoms.

This map was created by a fan before season 3 was a thing.

Where would the Crystal Empire and Yakyakistan be? I’m guessing the “head” to the north.
 
The Kirins? Mountains east of “Broken Leylands”.
 
Mount Aris? I’m guessing in The Quiet Sea…

Wasn’t it not until Season 4 that we got an official map?

This map was made in the August of 2011.  
I would presume just before the airing of the second season. It’s after season one we knew next to nothing about the lore of the series. There weren’t any official maps during that time.
 
I wasn’t even immersed in the series nor the fandom back then.

I learned about this map through Deviantart first (my DA account is… maybe two years older than my Derpibooru account), and I know the artist originally meant to use it for a fantasy adventure fic that never actually got off the ground.
 
That said, this is a pretty old map (August 2011, and there’s early drafts from earlier still) and a very popular one, too. There’s quite a lot of fan maps that use it as a base, reference and/or inspiration, and it’s been used in a lot of fics, too (the first one I read that used it was a Discord/Celestia shipping fix on DA, _Those Violet Eyes, and there’s plenty more besides that).
 
So I wouldn’t be surprised at all if there’s one or more pornographic stories that also use this map, but that wasn’t what it was originally developed for.

Actually I could be wrong. I think this map was used for a another fanfic. I just looked at it and I think they are completely separate fics

I did too. I think it is both adventure and erotic, but I think it leans more towards the erotic side. There are currently 5 chapters and 60 to 70% of the chapters are start up clop.

One would never expect that this map is part of a hardcore erotic fan comic. I have been looking at this map since 2013 (Smaller version in particular, discovering this one a year later) and it was only just today that I realized that it’s from a hardcore erotic fan comic

Not here, by you follow the source link, it leads to Deviantart (not sure why it shows the way it does). On the left side of the page, there’s a button marked “download”. Left click and open in a new tab and you have a full-sized version that zooms in much further than this does (without actually downloading anything on your physical computer, mind). It may work better or worse depending on which browser you open it on – for me these big images lag something awful when I open them in Safari, but Chrome always handled this one fine.
