Yeah, both sides are kinda overreacting, but honestly I don’t see many opposed to the idea, and I see some in the minority who prefer wingless Spike being attacked, (even when they voice their opinion maturely, and calmly) which isn’t right either.

Well, to be honest, I can understand that, because I kinda felt that way too, but I’m not really against him getting wings either.
 
And the other side isn’t being much better, a few months ago, we had this really obnoxious “pro-wing” guy here on Derpi’ constantly insulting, and bashing “earth dragon Spike fans,” (as he called them) bragging about how wrong they were, spamming up Spike images, and such.
 
I find it ironic people are more accepting of Spike spontaneously growing wings then Twilight. It’s funny to see somebody that obsessively pro-wing.

so far I’ve only seen one person be like that.  
he said that him not having wings is what made his personality uniqueness from other Dragons solid.  
but I would not be surprised if he only have that mindset after finding out he’s getting wings

Yeah, this line was probably from Larson’s initial draft. He loves poking fun at the whole alicorn thing.

She also left when the Story for season 2 was finished.  
I also remember him saying that it didn’t make sense for Fluttershy a shy character to have stage fright because she sang in front of 3 fillys that she knew but it makes perfect sense for Sweetie Belle to have stage fright even though she sang in front of a crowd.  
Also some dumb crap about replacing the Pony Tones with a choir of animals which would clearly take more than one day and would piss off the audience even if it’s for charity or not and of course saying that they could have just find someone else even though they say why they couldn’t aka why I don’t think he even watched the episode

The ironic thing is, Lauren Faust said she was actually highly involved in “Luna Eclipsed,” the episode he cited as the one that “showed how bad the show got when she left.”

A guy who did not like the show after lauren faust left and was a real asshole about it.  
He was posting dumb shit on his Tumblr during season 4 about episodes I don’t even think he watched.  
I also be number in his retrospective of G4 he said the show was in good hands but in his lunar eclipse with you he said he knew stuff like this was going to happen after she left

At least this one, I can defend by saying that Granny was off her meds.

Alot of stuff is getting quite meta, as meta-humor is quite popular with fans. Even the “Sonic Boom” TV series (while not the greatest show) had some clever jokes only Sonic fans, or those familiar with them would get.

I probably am taking it too seriously, but I’m far from overly positive. I still wasn’t huge on this episode even without the straw man feeling. More annoyed/disappointed that people get this angry over a kid’s show.
 
As for CR, sorry to hear about that. I stopped considering him reliable around the time he left the pony fandom for the stupidest of reasons.

I think you’re taking it too seriously. The episode showed overly positive fans can be bad too, and I think the episode was more of a look at the downsides of popularity, rather then just making fun of the fans. (Which they only did a few times looking back at it, and ironically only fans themselves would get the humor out of them.)
 
Plus, if the writer M.A.Larson can be a good sport about the “Thanks, Larson” memes, and such, (even made fun of himself on Twitter with that) you guys need to get thicker skinned too.
 
Actually, CR left, because he was angry that Cadance & Shining Armor existed, and decided everything about the show was bad, or too “toy-etic” (while ironically praising other toy commercials like the new Nick TMNT & “How to Train Your Dragon 2”) as a result. While CR is entitled to his opinions, (even his rather odd ones) I wouldn’t consider him a reliable critic, and such.  
He also snubbed me, and hid my comment on DA, when I apologized to him about something…

The more I think about this episode, the more disappointed I get. At first I felt it was straw manning, but people assured me it wasn’t. Then I remembered CR exists and realized, “No, no it’s not a straw man argument. A reviewer I liked literally left because of this dumb shit.” I’m sad now.
