I’m going to assume Derpy got more and more eye damage from the Rainbow Dash-themed fireworks launched near her face in every race.

Also, like Rarity and Suri, Rainbow Dash apparently didn’t remember much about the ponies she spent time with in her hobby or she would’ve surely had some memory of Lightning Dust later on.

I am so sad for young miss hooves right now!  
Although she doesn’t seem to mind… which is oddly inspiring T_T

Rainbow Dash: growing enthusiasm as she climbs the ranks.  
Spitfire: generally okay but with the occasional “didn’t do as well” look.  
Soarin’: generally upbeat, but still okay with losing.  
Fleetfoot: okay with not doing too well, alright with winning, but took the next downgrade pretty rough.  
Flitter: disappointed with losing at first, but then got in an okay stance.  
Cloudchaser: okay with winning something, but not fond of last place.  
Lightning Dust: accepted second place with a big smile, then became the top flier thrice in a row before getting upset at being second again.  
Derpy: got top then slowly got her infamous dead-eye after every race, gradually becoming worse and worse of a flier. But still somehow better off than Cloudchaser.

So Derpy has 1 of each Medal from; in order of Gold, Silver, Bronze, and 4th.

Notice too how no filly on one side is ever changed to the other. I’m better its an organizational thing where the top winners [indirectly] compete with the other for gold over both divisions.

So there are two Silver medalists and two Bronze medalists in flying competitions? Interesting concept.

Derpy used to be the best flyer at camp.
 
Lightning Dust was dethroned by Rainbow Dash.
 
There’s a lot of feels coming from this.

So many stories being told in this short sequence. It seems like each competition can’t be separated by more than a few weeks each.

Based on the line where Dash said she was the youngest of the senior fliers, and this is the senior fliers I guess that would make her older still. Along with Derpy.
