General Tag Discussion

Just noticed for a long time, why aren’t the My Little Pony: The Movie tags, tagged as My Little Pony: The Movie (1986) and (2017) respectively or the 2017? I know one is tagged as G1.

Was going to post this in Ask The Mods anything, decided to put it here.

It’s typically only necessary to disambiguate one tag of a two tag set.

What would be the functional difference in using years? The most common suffix for tags that share a name but are distinct in Generation is to make the parenthesis (g*) for whatever Generation it’s attached to. Consistency is good.

No, it’s simply lazy tagging.

Looks like “choose X” was created first. “choose X” tags could have been used in combination with the general episode’s tag, without needing unique sub-tags for every episode.

Alternately, they could become a collective tag that each episode’s sub-tag implies, ie. “choose twilight sparkle” would find all the images tagged “episode name: twilight sparkle”. But that’s not how it is right now, of course.

Is “mother and doughter” tag apply also to adoptive mother? I really don’t know why they are applied to Derpy and Dinky, Derpy is not her biological mother.

I don’t see why it wouldn’t apply to adoptive mothers. I am sure you will find artwork with the mother and daughter tag featuring Windy and Scootaloo. Some people interpret Derpy as Dinky’s mother - I remember quite a few AUs about it in the past.

should the absurd resolution tag officially become deprecated, given how searching for pixels.gte:16000000 results in every image that qualifies for the tag?

I think so, in principle, as well as everything else that can be searched for by attribute, such as 1080p, webm, gif, absurd file size, etc… I’ve said so in other posts.

But, I’m not sure if it should be actually be done, yet. Lots of users barely even know how to search or filter tags, much less use the search syntax. I’ve previously made a feature request where certain tags would seamlessly get substituted by search parameters, so they automatically get added to uploads without anyone having to tag them, and can be used in simple filters or watch lists.

You retagged their unedited photos as safe, but their descriptions are not safe. What’s worse, sometimes the NSFW modification offer is written directly on the image too. That doesn’t seem safe to me.

Also, when tagging the original manufacturer, I’d still add furrysale’s artist tag or some other tag (like photographer:furrysale) to let users know that these are not official photos from Symbiote Studios (or other manufacturer).

Also, should plushie modifications be tagged as edit?

No. Most people will not know how to search for that.

What does wishiehoof refer to?

I tagging the image by the common view of the image. And about the nsfw description, maybe I can add suggestive description for that

Also, photographer:furrysale seem the right tag for the artist
