Thoughts on Magical Mystery Cure and alicorn Twilight?

I think Magical Mystery Cure is mostly fine, but in my opinion it might be one of the most disappointing episodes of the series when you consider that Twilight becomes an alicorn in it. Alicorn Twilight haters would’ve existed regardless of how good the episode was, but I honestly feel like there would be a fair amount less of them if the plot actually had high enough stakes to warrant such a dramatic character change. What do you guys think?

I personally bought Larson a big fat beer for that one.

I rewatch it at least once a year.

Much better than Harry Potter, I’ll watch it again and again.

I have zero problems with Twilight getting wings, but I think it would have worked better if she had gotten them at the end of season 4, after Tirek had been defeated, as a “thank you for saving us all” gift.

Twilight not having wings until the finale would not have actually necessitated that many changes in season 4. A few episodes could have been moved to season 5, and the pilot would require changes, but that’s about it.

That would have been great too. But if Season 3 was to have been the end, I was happy that it “closed the arc”. That there was a season 4 really was a happy surprise. And, it too, had kind of an “ending of endings” finale.

Everything after that was kind of the warm hug after all the work had been done, for me. Bonus cake, so to speak.

One of my favourite episodes, I think it would have worked better as a two parter, but overall I enjoyed it, and god was the soundtrack good.

I like alicorn Twi, however I feel like her character seemed watered down post wings, she doesn’t have “adorkable moments” as often as the earlier seasons. When she’s written well like in A Royal Problem then I can’t complain.

I’m really hoping we’ll have Larson on staff for production of G6.

Some part of me wishes we had another two part adventure like with Sombra instead of a musical. Or maybe better yet, have the Crystal Empire be the finale of Season 3 instead to give the highest of stakes. And then at the end she could be rewarded princess status and it would be a fitting end to the FIM series.

Otherwise I felt the episode was a little too quick.

Still I might need to watch the episode again to see if my opinions still hold up. I haven’t watched it in awhile.

I got to say to the whole princess debate basically overshadowed debate on the episode and its place as a possible series finale.

In my honest opinion I think that Twilight becoming an Alicorn was good because it showed her growth and development as a character. Throughout the series, she demonstrated exceptional leadership, intelligence, and a strong sense of friendship. Becoming an Alicorn was a natural progression of her journey, symbolizing her readiness to take on greater responsibilities and challenges.
