He’s not a “walking reference”, he’s a fleshed-out character in his own right at this point. Chill. This kind of complaint really is making a big deal out of absolutely nothing.
I don’t like dr whooves or the show. I never liked the idea of a BG pony being turned into a walking reference to a whole other franchise by the fans, and became popular enough to become canon.
It will always bother me, and it’s unfortunately way too late for anything to change.

I’d really like to see him and Derpy again. Not because lol fan pandering, but because they were genuinely entertaining characters and it’d be a shame to only have them appear for one episode.
More of Bon Bon or Octavia wouldn’t hurt either.
The Doctor is very much the absent-minded brilliant inventor. His head way up in the stratosphere but always forward thinking and thinks one step ahead for better or worse. I could seriously see the show getting some mileage from him out off all the ascended background ponies.

He didn’t “quote” anything, except for the phrase “allons-y”. The basis for his personality may be a parody of the Doctor from Doctor Who, but he’s not a clone. He does, in fact, have a unique personality, definitely unlike anyone else in the show so far. You seem to be basing your opinion on very poor arguments.
Ep 100 was a parody of all the parodys, normal service will resume next episode.
Dr. Whooves is an ok pony, but Dr. Who is such a dumb show.
They should have given him his own unique personality instead of just making him the pony version of Dr. Who
all he does is quote stuff I don’t care about from that show, it’s so boring and not funny even.
You’re crazy man, the Doctor was solid gold in this episode. Best stallion in the series so far, except maybe Trouble Shoes.

I thought I loved this show for the characters, but when you say it like that, I guess I love it because the studio just puts so much damn effort and love into everything they do!
They aren’t “one-dimensional” at all, any more than the mane six. In fact, as character introductions go, the Doctor had a stronger start than they did.
Then the show would be full of one-dimensional background ponies.
As tantalizing as that sounds, we already have Applejack for that. We don’t need an entire cast of them.
It’s quite true. Maybe they should phase them out.
