Season 6 Episode Discussion [Speculation/Theories/Beware of Spoilers]

Honestly I think the little backstory we got was garbage pure and simple. All it really did was try to connect her personality and how she got there while destroying her character in the premiere, unintentionally insulting her character and the backstory of Our Town while also partially insulting the viewers. As far as I’m concerned that backstory is unsalvagable.
 
It’s part of the reason why I just flat out don’t like her personality.

Exactly. If anything, the more attention they draw to it, the harder it’ll be for fans to swallow her reformation.

I’ve only seen a few and only from the people who already said such before like Villain Pony. Looking at here, 4chan, youtube, etc etc I’ve seen more people masturbating over the episode than hating it. As for Starlight, just like with Crystalling I’m seeing a lot of people warming up to her and that kinda includes you too.

It was clearly thrown together at the last minute. It seems like they had something else in mind, but had to wrap up the episode as soon as possible, so they threw together a different backstory for her and just rolled with it.

Okay, I’ll bite. I probably would make Twilight less self-righteous. Maybe give her some self-doubt about Starlight, she voices this to Celestia and they have some conversation about what it means to be a teacher (good opportunity to do something with Celly), etc.
 
If she has to be suspicious about Trixie, I’d give an underlining reason as to why. Maybe it’s personal, maybe she just doesn’t like Trixie. Maybe she doesn’t like how Trixie makes her feel sexy lesbian things

Like I said before, it seems like a bit of a base breaker. People either love the episode or hate it. People who like Starlight and dislike Starlight seem to be standing their ground, while those in the neutral camp seem to be drifting towards one side or the other.

Twilight will never get a good episode again. She’s either written as a “sue” with no flaws, or an asshole to make other characters look better. In the end, everyone has more justifiable reason to hate her guts for becoming an alicorn. Fuck this gay earth.

I agree and disagree. Actually I already told Crystal this so excuse the repost:
 
“Now this is final leg where I have extend my hand to you. I agree that the ending messed with what was made. Everything I said before had this grand, painful, raw bite to it (and after to with the crystalling), but to me the ending was overly soft; didn’t have that same bite. While the reasoning is sound imo (cutie mark related thing lead to resentment yadda yadda), but it just being one person does really express the lead into what Starlight became well enough; though I will say that after getting more context to Star and Sun’s relationship the bite is now stronger, but not enough for me.”
 
I agree that was soft shit compared to what happened, but I’m far from saying that it didn’t make a proper connection, more so since it’s meant to mirror how the 6 ripped her “utopia” from her hands yadda yadda connecting themes. So for me it did go against, but didn’t ruin it, for me  
I’d say that’s a fair assessment, don’t you?

I disagree. It’s sad that Twilight’s character has to suffer to justify Starlight’s continued existence, but I don’t think things are that bad.

Oh no I agree that with it connecting to Glimmer decently enough.
 
No my problem is that they had her blame the wrong thing entirely at the base of her ideology and tried to make it so her ideology only applied to her even though everything we’ve seen says otherwise. Making her completely in the wrong and also have the main characters learn nothing from the endeavor.
