Policy update regarding AI content

They can generate all they like, derpi’s just not going to blow their funding hosting it.

I am highly against this policy change. As a very long time user this feels like a very needless and frankly hate driven approach to something which harms no one. Why isn’t all AI art being banned, just what is arbitrarily decided to be ‘the low quality stuff’? This same exact argument could be given to the people who trace other’s images, post literal stick figures, or just sloppily recolor manes and coats. If the staff is trying to enforce some sort of “quality control” why not control the quality of everything else? This announcement feels like it is the product of a few very hateful voices that have a massive bone to pick with anything AI. This announcement also creates a very nasty slippery slope and moving goalpost issue. What is “Quality AI Art”? How can any viewer tell if a particular piece of AI art is the product of a really good prompt and generation or the product of an artist spending hours infilling and editing? If people just don’t want to see AI art why not just use filters? This plan is short sighted, ill thought out, and feels driven by all the wrong reasons. Do not go through with it.

The policy is not about “someone complained” it’s about a massive mess where 80% of staff work the past year+ has been overtaken by AI generated content and an almost as long plans of how we should handle it.

It’s easy to make assumptions from the outside of “well I guess someone on Twitter bitched and they’re listening to that and nothing else!” as it doesn’t see what’s under the hood.

AI generated images get spammy very fast. Very very very fast. You can just hide them all from sight, any user can. But we as staff cannot just do that and act like any issues do not exist. We planned out and decided this solution after spending months discussing it and coming to what we felt was the best compromise for everyone, so AI content still exists in a place, but isn’t overtaking here.

Agreed. DA has so much AI junk in my feed that it’s tedious. They should either just ban all AI art or make a filter for it.

Well, considering how much I had to read and apply on the topic of AI, this is a little sad, especially due to the fact that tantabus for some reason simply does not work for me, with the same success simply banned AI on the site and everyone who is interested in it just moved on would be on civitai and similar sites

The rule change seems to say that new AI-generated images will be forbidden, so this seems to mean that existing AI-generated images are here to stay unless they get taken down for some other reason. So you’re probably going to want to find a new place to upload AI-generated images, but your existing images probably won’t be going anywhere.

I truly fail to see the issue. Isn’t the only reason there is even a review process just to pevent images illegal in France from being posted? That takes about 1 second of review. Additionally what’s the difference between this “spammy” type AI art and the people who post 20 different subtle edits of the same pic? I’m really failing to see the issue with review you’re talking about. Are you absolutely sure that this decision isn’t coming from a place of malice on the part of anyone among the staff?

Read the first post. The lock on pure AI made pics is coming in, but they’ll be doing a purge of it early in january from the main site itself and moving them to tantabus.

If you’ve been reading the thread, you’d see that the moderators have had their hands full often in the past months with just AI related disputes and problems like style copying/impersonations. A thing filters simply won’t fix.

You don’t see the issue as you’re not a staff member so you haven’t seen what we deal with first hand or how much time or focus certain things can and do take.

All previous ai works will be moved to tartuars.ai all previous ai will be removed in this site.

They have made entierly new site for it tantabus.ai and are now paying even more hosting costs. Additionally I can tell you that hosting a few terabytes isn’t very expensive. Most of the expense dosn’t come from holding the data, it’s from serving it and running the VMs. Disk is the cheapest part of hosting a website.
