Possibly on the surface.
However a disproportionate amount of staff time (and sanity) the last ~half year was spent on AI related topics; people uploading really bad quality stuff, outright blatant style copies (and even impersonations), people regularly blasting through the daily upload limit, comment and tag fights… and most of these things lead to follow-ups in DMs, Discord, emails, etc.
Overall no other kind of content has sucked up so much time and needed so much attention; things were “running”, but not smoothly at all.

Again, why we can’t have nice things.
I’m actually surprised unregistered uploads were allowed. I know there’s anonymous uploading, but I thought unregistered user uploads weren’t a thing, especially after that stint from a few years ago when people were uploading CSAM content.

ai interpretation - images fully redrawn by an artist based on something ai generated
Would be curious the workflow/expectations on this. Ex. I often commission artists by providing AI reference images of the coarse pose/clothing ideas I have in mind, but the end result can look very different from what I generate. I favor accurately tagging uploads, though I am a tad wary if there’s residual stigma around “anything related to ai” (particularly if it downplays the artists’ skill in the otherwise original work, or affects what images the default audience will see in their feed). Is the expectation that a link to the ai content should be provided in the description (vs in the image itself for ‘ai reference’) to provide context of what the ai contribution is? (and if this is omitted, the ‘ai interpretation’ tag need not apply?)

Read the post just above yours. It’s being culled to another site because in part it’s been eating up too much moderator time dealing with crap from said AI pics. Like people intentionally copying artists and even trying to pose as them.

I have a question.
Ironically, has someone who make ai picture myself, I 100% agree and LOVE this update a lot. If we don’t do something, we are going to get plagued by ai, and its boring for everyone. Its a good decision to make, and I even feel we should make it a once a week thing but it would be hard for Mods to keep track so I understand.
I try to not post more than once a week and put a lot of work on my pieces with edits and take the time to make short stories with them, otherwise I don’t get a “Accomplishment” feeling.
This got me to ask though, most of my work are heavily edited, draw missing pieces (Cutiemarks, bad eyes, background, ect..) and even combined multiples pics in one picture to create a specific concept, would it be considered a “Ai composition” or even be tolerated.
-For Example: It’s impossible for any ai to create a accurate background pony cutiemark (Like Cloudchaser) because it doesn’t have enough data for such a thing. If you search Cloudchaser + Ai content, there not a single accurate cutiemark of that character. Character like the princesses and main characters required no work because they are used all the time and have a high data base. For that I enjoy working on theses kind of pics because they required much more time to make.
-2th Example: My 5th pic was never generated this way. If you zoomed on the left side of the table, you will noticed that it was drawed by hand, the left side of the background was added, Rarity was not on this picture and she was added and edited behind the table, the bottom diamond of Rarity’s cutiemark was drawed by hand, and other details of that nature. But the bodies of the characters itself was not drawed by me obviously. I can share it in a PM with every step process if needed.
Based on that: Should I tag myself has a ‘Editor’ or simply tag it has a ‘Ai composition’ for such thing ?

“ai interpretation” is a fairly voluntary tag; some artists feel it necessary to mention that the inspiration came from something ai generated, so we simply provided a standardized tag. If someone doesn’t want to use it that’s fine.

feels like it, idk. i do know that some ai art with all of the controversy, could have a place. i love to seeing realistic ai sexy ponies that i cant with an conventional art or even 3d render.

Unverified users have to wait for their content to be screened against “is it literally illegal or not?” before it gets shown to the public.
But that’s the thing - I could’ve sworn that unregistered users weren’t able to post uploads to begin with. The whole reason I made an account a decade ago was so I could upload pics because I thought I wasn’t able to otherwise.

I don’t know if that was a thing before 10 years or so ago, but the entire time I’ve used Derpi I remember being able to upload, and edit metadata and such without being signed in. The legality verification step that was implemented to curtail the CSAM spam a couple years ago is about the only change to anonymous/new user posting I recall.

I just think that The Hate that will come is gonna be HARD
some of those artists just wanted to generate stuff they like
Though i guess this works in a way to do so
