Well, the earlier Twinkleshine has a cutie mark but then the later one is younger and has no cutie mark. Look how Twilight is older in the second picture and much younger in the first one so the picture 1 is from earlier than picture 2

What are we supposed to be seeing? She doesn’t have her cutie mark in the picture below because she’s a little filly. Her cutie mark in the comic is exactly the same as in the show (except that the stars have thin black outlines, because that’s just the way the comic is drawn).

Hey if you jerks are complaining about canon in IDW you should steer clear of Marvel and DC. They will probably send you into a homocidal fury with all their retconning and multiple conflicting canons.

“This is why the comics are to be regarded as REALLY not canon. Too many goofups”
So how many goofups are allowed? Who decided that? You?
All fiction have errors, so canon never exists anywhere?
The show is filled with mistakes too
Winter coming before autumn
Duplicate ponies everywhere
The Everfree Forest constantly changing between the most dangerous and lethal place ever, and just an ordinary forest
Starswirl the Bearded an obscure unicorn? He has an entire library wing named after him!
The time it takes to go from Ponyville to Canterlot varies from almost instantly to almost a day
Train stations in the middle of nowhere (S3E1, S5E1, …) for no reason. How absurd and unrealistic!
The ages of BG ponies are inconsistent, sometimes old, sometimes young (nearly every flashback has inconsistencies!)
NMM not understanding how the elements of harmony work, and thinking they are just stone balls that can be smashed
Cheerilee having that special 80s manestyle when she was younger, saying that was the fashion then. And yet we see many flashbacks of other ponies of her age and we NEVER see that style again.
And so on and so on.
So according to your logic, the show itself isn’t canon because it has too many goofups. The show may even have more goofups than the comics.

“way too many Mary Sue OCs”
The inclusion of OCs does not make something not canon. It may rusttle your jimmies, but that’s no reason to not be canon. Besides the show has started using OCs too. Remember Trade Ya? Or Princess Spike?
Mary Sue? There is not a single Mary Sue in the comics or the show. You don’t even know what that word means are just throwing words around.

The comic writer got the look right— but the ages all wrong. Twilight Sparkle is just a filly here; she wouldn’t become best buds with that little group any more than a bunch of college kids would start hanging with a grade schooler.

This is why the comics are to be regarded as REALLY not canon. Too many goofups, way too many Mary Sue OCs, and just way too many idiot balls being tossed around.

The cartoon Moondancer is ALMOST okay, except for being pale yellow instead of white like the comic and toy…. why’d they make her yellow, is my only real question.
Kerion

This comic came out long before Amending Fences. Some times the comics can be canon, unless contradicted by the show and are retconned. Since there are multiple of many ponies, this particular comic would go into the ‘maybe canon’ pile. It depends on what the viewer think is canon.

@Lawful Girly
The toys DO have stories! That’s why so many mistakenly thought that Twilight’s mother was the author of the Daring Do books. So are you now saying that the toys are primary and the show isn’t canon?

More like the show and the comics are licensed properties of the toys, and either the toys are prime canon or such a thing doesn’t exist.

If an episode contradicts the comics, then that episode is not canon to the comics :)

You know what in cutie mark chronicles there is younger Twilight and adult or just bigger posture rest of her gang (colgate lyra lemon hearts)
And in that way I just showed that comic is still canon lol :D

So she didn’t have have her cutie mark yet when the science lab incident happened? What’s your point?
Background Pony #2033
Up: more mature than twilight with CM
Down: Same age than twilight without CM

Conclusion: unicorn 5 got they cutiemark first, the comic are still canon
