The comic only have 22 pages to tell a story. It’s still 5x better than what we got in S3 of FiM.  
People are just expecting some Alan Moore tier story.

don’t worry too much about it, ‘cause I mean, yeah, the story is dumb. It attempts to, like many Castlevania basic plots, add character and some kind of story to them, but it ultimately fails and feels completely rushed, devoid of any understandable progression and so on.
 
that’s not just with the comics though, the show’s two parter season openers and enders also suffer of the same problem, they’re stories more fit for a movie, or as is the case with Sombra’s story, a graphic novel, because these stories employ some very complex elements, elements that don’t even feel right to be in the Show that was made to be more of a light hearted adventure series with lessons at the end, like difficult relations to extrapolate on with Nightmare Moon’s character, both relating to who she was as Luna and who she is now, as well as elaborating further what this fall means to her, or more importantly, the Crystal Empire that was just revealed and explained that is an archaic place, which vanished only 1000 years ago and even the characters themselves whom manage to get next to no screentime, take Celestia for instance, all her character dialogue, word for word, in any adventure setting ever, all of it is just expository dialogue, the only time she broke out of that and felt like an Actual Character was with Discord, when he was using the stain glass to talk to them and it wasn’t even that amazing of a moment, she just simply lost all her patience and snapped back at him, but God knows that accounted for more than half her completely pointless appearances which were all, “Twilight, something is going on and I need you to check that shit out because the script says that’s my role, even though I am alluded to be a Princess Demigod of this world, who has protected it and still has the reputation of one of the world’s most powerful beings. It’s your duty to get that stuff down and I’ll just sit on this throne hoping everything will sort itself out, as well as have the script later on explain why I’m so useless all of the time”.
 
it’s not even just that, I’m probably missing on a lot of things that other fans probably care more about than I do, like how unbelievably weak the pilot’s part 2 was, or how quick and meaningless everything that happened in Princess Twilight Sparkle was, or how the Name of the episode spells out the character’s status and her title…  
who knows what constitutes as problems or how important they are, the point is, this story while is kind of shit, at least actually tried something and almost made it there.

I’m agreed. Yes, he could choose the “Light Side” but Amore simple tortured indirectly him for years. The crystal ponies hated him, he was bullied and hurted… he wasn’t a monster, Amore (in good faith) made him a monster.

I find it difficult to jump into this conversation, because the whole story is just so stupid. It’s a hackneyed plot from start to finish, with a plot like Past Sins, only dumber.

Wow.. what a coment. You know, if you at least had the decency to link him with a more relatable personality like his and not child predators like the ones you mentioned, you’d have used an actual victim of bad childhood and history of vengeful killings like Pedro Filho.

Exactly; Sombra is the victim here. He’s no more guilty than John Wayne Gacy or Ted Bundy.

Again. He had been shown a fate here he was evil, and told he was by his creator. Not unlike how a child who had been told for many years by an abusive parent they were unworthy/stupid/etc. begins to believe it theirself. That and the immediate hurt of Amore’s lie being revealed sent him over the edge.
 
Have you never qhanted vengeance? Especially for such a huge part of your life? In his case, against those qho had despised him - and his only friend - their entire lives?

Amore told him he could change. Even Radiant did. Honestly, I think he just stopped trying to change because he saw that being a monster would give him power and the chance to get back at the people who had hurt him. He even said as much- “we’ll be the ones doing the hurting”. He knew what he was doing was evil, but he decided evil was what he wanted to be. That’s when he stopped being a victim who needed sympathy and started being a villain who needed to be stopped.

If you had been shown your fate, and another person’s, then seen them already on their path fate laid for them. If you had been told you had no other purpose than to serve your creator, in a struggle against those who alienated you.If you found you had been lied to by one of the few who you’d trusted implicitly your whole life - would you accept your fate?
 
I suppose it really boils down to whether or not you believe in destiny and the like, whether or not the future is inevitable. Quite intriguing, at least to me.

For all the trouble Sombra went through, in the end he consciously decided to be a monster and he intentionally put others through more pain and suffering than he ever experienced. Amore made big mistakes too- something I like about this comic is that we’re never told we have to agree with her. But in the end, she did have one thing right: Sombra could have been good if he chose not to deal with his pain by hurting innocents.
 
If it helps, Cadance does have an understandable bias against Sombra herself, and Twilight never outright agrees that feeling sorry for him is wrong. It looks more like she doesn’t know how to feel about what she’s learned. The only thing she’s sure of is that her dealings with him are over.

Now I’m imagining her as a horribly ugly child, only loved by those earth ponies because either 1) They’ve never seen a pegasus and think that’s the way they look or 2) they pitied her. Alicornism made her less revolting.

Actually, Cadance’s background was that she was an orphan pegasus found by an earth pony town where everyone loved her, until she beat an emotion-sucking witch and became an alicorn.
 
Still a series of lucky breaks, though.

I’m just rather disappointed. Everything is always in black and white for the characters, just once I’d like to find them unsure. Find themselves unable to tell if what they’re doing/have done is/was right.
 
Then again, as you said, they’ve never been dealt the crap hand.  
Cadance: Born an alicorn, marries a guard captain, get’s an entire kingdom, is the princess of love…  
Twilight: Protoge of the sun goddess, bearer of harmony, Ascendant alicorn, princess of friendship, friend of EVERYONE, crystal castle, had an assistant for a large portion of her life, has never lost a major struggle…
 
I just am so… ug. I like it when protagonists find themselves in the wrong. That’s my only major issue with the show.
 
And don’t bring up Zecora, the instant forgiveness and lack of that ‘What have I done?’ moment ruin that.

Princesses of Love and Friendship?  
He was outcasted, shunned, lied to. He found himself a victim of destiny. He saw his fate as inescapable because his only companion’s fate was already being realized. In part, he did it FOR her. He lost that friend because of his fate.
 
He never got to go to the fair.

A possible theory is that she was born out of one of the crystals of Princess Amore, hence both her connection to the Crystal Heart and the loose relationship. Cadance’s story is almost a mirror of Sombra’s to a degree, if you think about it.
