I’ll argue that once you decide to do the “naked pony” joke, it’s basically even odds between this pose and this pose mirrored.
 
Bipedal posture is funnier - because it leaves more limbs to cover with, and it’s more awkward, emphasizing the loss of dignity.
 
One foreleg extended down to cover the crotch - basically mandated by the joke.
 
Body between 1/2 and 3/4 frontal - can’t face away or the joke wouldn’t work, but turns the hips to optimize the coverage provided by the foreleg.
 
Opposite foreleg crossing the chest - rule of funny, since there’s no salient features there on a pony. But it’s better to have that leg contributing to the joke, than not.
 
Front mane curl on right - must be opposite tail for good visual balance, tail follows hips, hip angle set by leg choice as discussed above. No additional degree of freedom here.
 
(Some minor variations can occur, but then again the screen capture and the art aren’t identical to the last detail either. My point is that there are really few choices for the artist, e.g. in both cases Rarity’s tail is at right angles to her spine because we want the sweeping arc we’re familiar with even though it doesn’t make anatomical sense.)
