So I was wondering which version of an image to upload since the artist uploads their art to multiple different sites, and because each site has their own quirks, there could be arguments for either one.

Also, the images are NSFW, so consider yourselves warned chilluns.

The argument for the Twitter one is that, pretty point blank, its dimensions are bigger. Considering their round numbers, it could also maybe be argued that it’s the original size the artist output the image as. However, it has the wonderful hallmarks of compression, as Twitter loves to do, and they are pretty noticeable from just a regular zoom-in. Its file size is also pretty small to boot.

The argument for the FA one is that it’s both PNG, a more desirable image format, and the file size.. well, it’s perhaps a misnomer to say bigger file size = better quality, but you at least don’t see the jaggies in there, and the greater amount of information leads to smoother gradient changes and other good stuffs. However, FA does its own version of manipulating uploaded images, and it seems to shrink the dimensions of the image itself, for some reason. I recall there being a way to work around it, but fuck if I can remember what it is anymore, or if it even still works.

So, yeah. A lot of words to say “Which one should I upload?” I’m more in favor of the FA one myself.

I guess I’m wondering if there are any general guidelines to follow in a situation like this, too. I tried doing a cursory search through the forums for an appropriate thread regarding the topic or if there were things about it in the “About Uploading” section, but couldn’t find anything really. Thanks.

Honestly if people like Wild Manes so much, go make your own booru for it. Philomena is free and open-source to use and set up, and there’s The Booru Project too if you don’t feel like learning a new skill.

Plus, most of the Filly Funtasia images are MLP memes or MLP characters done in the Filly Funtasia style (or vice versa). Most of them aren’t solely Filly Funtasia.

I’m not opening that can of worms, but really, is searching “fluttershy, big breasts” and finding the character specific tag that way that hard? Or “fluttershy, discord, shipping”? It’s not rocket science to be able to figure it out. I very much value character.

Oh, so this is where this originated from. I’m pretty against this idea because honestly, doing stuff like this really sucks the fun out of the site.

It’s not that hard to figure out what a ship is, all you have to do is search “rarity, applejack, shipping” and you’ll be able to find the ship tag. And this, plus the changing of stuff like “raritits” to “busty rarity” is really taking the character out of the site. Some tag prefixes, like “parent:”, are needed to imply who the parent is of a character and to identify specific posts where rainbow dash is or is not a parent to another character. This doesn’t have that though and is just wholly unnecessary.

As for “where were you when this was being discussed,” I’m not a fuckin’ nerd so I don’t lurk the forums here lol. But it seems like there are more and more decisions like being made lately that are making the site less and less unique and fun. I already forsee other tags getting this treatment, further genericizing the site. Derpi’s supposed to be the fun, pony-centric booru right? Not a lame Danbooru/e621 clone where you can’t even have a “cute” tag because “blahh it’s so subjective!!!”

part of the fun of things was looking through the tags and finding what creative name it had been given. what was the reasoning for it?

was it really necessary to preface all ships with “ship:”?

So the former artist tag has not been created, but this seems to be the new name they’re going under. May be best to keep as current artist tag.

finding an image to add a tag to is super easy, especially on the front page because tons of people forgot to tag “anthro” and “equestria girls”

I definitely feel like there shouldn’t be points for comments and those points should go to editing tags, but I can see how that can be abused extremely quickly and to a much worse end than spamming comments.
