Tagging Discussion » Overly-specific colors: considered harmful? Discussion for a standard set of taggable colors » Topic Opener

Background Pony #0E75
People sometimes get very specific - IMO, unhelpfully specific - tagging colors of things with modifying words, like “light pink mane” or “dark blue tail”. This will often be instead of a simpler, more guessable color tag like just “blue tail” - and it would be far too much work to get the site assistants to chase around all the hundreds of possible permutations in order to make them imply the closest relevant standard color tags. Plus, having every detailed color plus standard color of every body part tagged will turn the tags section into just 50% colors of things by length.
At least those could turn up with a wildcard search, like “*pink mane”. But then, you get things like “reddish pink mane” where I guess you’d have to know to do the wildcards as both “red* mane” (for that) and “*red mane” (for the others)..?
People also sometimes tag things with a color that’s a low-use color name, like “mint eyes”, “aquamarine mane”, or “indigo hair”. These will hardly let anyone find the post due to having to guess which near-synonym someone happened to use, nor would they show up in wildcard searches like “*blue hair”.
Then you get silly with all of the above in excess, like “lilac red tail”, “yellow chartreuse mane” (???), “light hot pink mane”, “grayish turquoise coat”…
tangelo coat” plus “brilliant tangelo coat” plus “light brilliant tangelo coat” all tagged at once on the same image, although I wonder if that person was just shittagging…
someone once tried “brilliant cerulean and brilliant heliotrope mane” -_-
Repeat that for each of “mane”, “hair”, “tail”, “coat”, “wings”, and “eyes”.
Then, people want to tag all the colors of a multi-colored design, like “brown and blue mane”…

Can we not?
I propose there be a standard set of named colors permitted for tags, with a policy to not get more specific nor to whip out a thesaurus.
My suggested list is:
rainbow (special case )
white, black, gray, tan, brown
pink, red, orange, yellow, green, [see below], blue, purple, magenta
One or at most two out of: light blue, sky blue, cyan, teal, turquoise
Maybe, maybe not: blonde, beige, lavender, violet
If a color really is hard to define, like if it’s borderline desaturated enough to be uncertain if it’s the color of its hue vs. “gray”, just don’t tag a color.
Additional info that can be tagged already exists, such as “three toned mane”. Of course, this doesn’t connect which colors are in the same mane, when an image might have multiple characters in it, but I think that is preferable to the roughly 1000 tags you’d need to account for all the permutations.

These are being used identically correctly.
However I wanna point out that the TF term originates from transformation FETISH. So the current definition “A character transformed into an inanimate object.” is somewhat incorrect. If anybody wanted to separate them, then “inanimate tf” would IMPLY “objectification” but would apply to raunchier pictures just like the other “…fetish” tags.

Art Chat » CLothing dye for midtone Paper » Topic Opener

Has anyone tried using Rit clothing dye on paper or mixed media type? I been told by a couple of people I could tone paper. Basically achieving a similar affect as tone brown or grey paper. The idea of working backwards from dark to light in a traditional medium.
I also heard of coffee staining, but this throws off the PH neutral balance of paper. I know Nerd Forge would use PH testing and baking soda to reach PH 7. However, I am not sure I would trust this enough myself. My last resort will be experimenting with water color paint in a tube. I could just dilute it. Though it would be cheaper if I could simply dye paper in the same bath of water from Rit.

You have got to be kidding me. How the fuck are those rule violations? Last I remember the New Lunar Republic thread doesn’t even have a real topic (just random chat iirc).
I sort of can understand the first comment getting deleted, but that second comment was not “off topic”. It’s the same stuff I’ve posted before many times on a thread that’s just been random chat. It should be un-deleted if that’s even possible.

The Butt Connoisseur
There are some tag prefixes that get highlighted at the top of a tag list, and I wanted to clarify which ones there were and their purpose, as well as a tagging question/proposal.
The ones I’m aware of are:
comic:: To tag a series of pictures that are part of a comic strip-style art and storyline
spoiler:: Tags related to an episode or somilar content to avoid spoilers
series:: This is where I get a bit lost. I believe its for [individual] pictures that share a similar theme, situation, or story but don’t fall under a comic tag.
So if an artist releases a multi-slot YCH–coloring different characters into the same pose–I don’t think that’s a series, but there are enough like it that I think there should be another prefix for it.
What could be useful is a set: (and/or ych:) modifier, that gets treated with the same pink treatment as comic: and series: and thus separates them a little more clearly.
series: would be for pictures where the group follows some sort of story, situation, theme, or even universe–something that could be story driven. set: would be for pictures that share a theme but don’t have a story–things like ychs, repeated picture sets, an event, etc.
Could that be possible?

Background Pony #F13E
I guess keep the Japanese one, because it looks like “when the cicadas cry” is simply a literal translation while the actual localized English name was “Higurashi When They Cry”
Then, rena ryuugu, shion sonozaki, kuraudo ooishi, mion sonozaki, keiichi maebara, and rika furude should imply it (there might be others but these are the characters I found at a quick tag glance)
