Yeah much as I love SCP stories, the power creep in some of the “classics” has been annoying.

I’m personally a fan of the anomalous locations and ones that involve what could be considered ghosts.

682’s invincibility is more of a silly meme on the other SCPs, no matter how insane your idea is it won’t kill the lizard, pretty sure there is even a story where it turns out the one in o death was just dormant because there was nothing to destroy,

Yes that’s the problem.

682 used to be just “The really hard to kill lizard”. In the early days a bunch of his reports was about how he’d survive fairly conventional if extravagant methods to execute him. Except dropping a nuke on him. Not because the SCP heads knew it wouldn’t work, but because they were worried if it didn’t then they’d have to contain a radioactive 682. That was nice, an implicit maybe-or-not cap on the thing’s survivability, just enough to give it a charming character flaw.

Then one SCP lost a “Who would win” hypothetical once. And that traumatized the entire SCP community so bad it became their Canon Event. Now the entire verse is borked as it’s all become the shittiest race to create the most OP OC in all of fiction on top of rewriting existing SCPs to also never lose another “Who would win” matchup.

So something like 682 went from an alligator-looking whale skeleton that maybe could be killed by a nuke to the abstract concept of immortality itself.

682 would win because it can’t be killed that’s its thing it can not be killed or at least won’t stay dead whereas Doomsday can and has been killed.
Like 682 match ups boil down to is can what its fighting be killed and if yes than naturally the thing that’s whole gimmick is not dying is the winner by default.

SCP’s work best when they have the vibe of a creepy campfire story or internet urban legend. When you actually try to contract more details/complex lore for them that’s when it starts falling apart

SCP’s are great for a public story but awful when taking a more detailed and critical view.

I think my favorite part of the Death Battle Cast between a hypothetical matchup was the SCP stan saying that SCP 682 would totally stomp Doomsday because ‘nuh uh shut up lalalalala’, while the Doomsday stan kept listing off comic feats.

Meanwhile Ben and Chad spent the entire time being like “So, uh, Doomsday scales directly to Superman if not higher. 682 will fight Doomsday by biting him?”

Funny thing is, stuff like Death Battle actually CAN’T use SCP for any match ups becuase of how open sourced it is, and how it doesn’t have any concrete canon “lore/feats” to go off of. (That an obviously the lack of any sort of actual visual media with them lol)

The SCP Foundation was fun back during its early days as a creepypasta-adjacent World of Weird collection of stories.

Then they let a single Vs Debater slipped through the cracks and oozed themselves into the community once. And now the entire verse is fucked up beyond all repair as it became the orgy of “My OC can beat up your OC!” schoolyard nonsense.

They tried to dial it back a few years back by creating the “Abel line”, basically an agreement that SCP-076-2 was the limit for how OP and cool an SCP could be. But as I mentioned, the floodgates got opened for every 12yo VS Debater to claim that their streetlight SCP can beat up Marvel’s The One Above All and Abel and Goku at the same time.

So is SCP 96 just the internet’s main Villain Stu now?

Box office numbers this weekend + MLK Jr. Day:

-“Mufasa” took the crown this weekend by outgrossing the newly released movies. It only dropped by 15% from last weekend, which is the 2nd fewest drop among the movies that are currently playing in theaters. It also made an additional $52 million worldwide from last week; $49 million if you don’t count MLK Jr. Day. The movie’s box office performance is quite impressive.
-Keke Palmer and SZA led their way to the #2 spot this weekend with “One of Them Days.” Against a budget of $15 million, it should make a decent amount of money and would turn into a decent profit for Sony.
-All howl and no bite. “Wolf Man” came into 3rd place by making a disappointing $12.3 million domestic and $17.1 million worldwide on its opening weekend. Against a budget of $25 million, I think this film has a candidate of being the first flop of the year due to bad reception and weak opening weekend numbers. The film was originally projected to make around $17-20 million domestic on its opening 4-day weekend before the reviews came out.
-“Sonic 3” continues to impress during weekends by making $8.6 million domestic on its 5th weekend, which was a 24% drop from the previous weekend. It has made more than “Sonic 2”’s worldwide gross of $405 million. Its next goal is to surpass “Warcraft (2016)”’s worldwide gross of $439 million this weekend.
-“Den of Thieves 2” took a hit this weekend thanks to “Mufasa,” “Sonic 3,” and the two newly released films. Its predecessor only dropped 43% from the opening weekend, though that film dropped from the #3 to the #7 spot, losing to “The Post” and “The Greatest Showman.” I think it should still do fine against a budget of $40 million.
-“Moana 2” had the fewest drop among the movies that are currently playing in theaters. It also reached the $1 billion worldwide overall mark and is the 56th film to do so.
-“Nosferatu” took a hit this weekend thanks to “Wolf Man,” but I think it should bounce back next weekend thanks to the film getting a much stronger reception than “Wolf Man.”
-“A Complete Unknown” is still doing pretty good.

The Toxic Avenger reboot staring Peter Dinklage will finally be releasing later this year, after years stuck on the shelf.

It will also be the unrated version too.
