What about Discord doing it by accident? In an episode in S8, he does try to help out Big Mac with his problem but because of lack of information at the time, he accidentally made it worse.

Twilight turning evil in the series finale isn’t that unbelievable. They’ve jumped higher sharks than that. Would be boring, though. Didn’t they try that in EqG already?

With the few leaked episodes I saw, S8 episodes made the previous seasons look like fillers. Especially if you’ve been around since S1. They’re finally resolving a lot of character arcs. Spike’s in particular is very interesting because we learn more about dragons and why for the most part he doesn’t have wings. To top it off, the episode where he actually got wings had clear solid call backs to both SomE AND Dragon Quest stating all the events that happened to Spike up to that point are completely canon. Nothing is retconed.

Yeah. It was about togetherness and being with family/friends. I guess that’s not what the kids are in to so the show decides to be relevant. Its a perfectly normal thing to do.

In the series, they show that all of them have the ability to switch between air mode or sea mode whenever they want.

How much can be discussed about Silver Stream’s species? Their entire race is like dual mode creatures.

Not sure. For me, the buffaloes and yaks are at the same level of relevance. Maybe they just chose to go with which one was less racist. Lol, idk. The diamond dogs I think are being treated like manticores or sea serpents. They’re there and they’re sentient where one sea serpent even attended a pony wedding but they’re not being treated like a significant species.
 
The show has strange species barriers. They have pets and live stock like pigs but then there’s Cranky Doodle and Matilda. And I think Ponyville even has one resident cow. Who knows how that works?

I actually only really care for Twilight, Rarity and Pinkie. Twilight gets the over all series going from her perspective, Rarity is very well developed with dreams, a family, a business, and Pinkie’s personality fits the “friendship” angle of the series. The other three seem unnecessary. They might as well be secondary town ponies like the Cakes or Cheerilee.

They’re still together. Characters are just being closed down for anticipating ending Gen 4. Spike gets wings. Big Mac now has a canon gf he gets episodes with. Maud gets a bf. Starlight and Sunburst show us impressions of their past and we see their town and parents. And so on.

They literally jumped the shark in that episode. The scene with Octavia and Vinyl and the sound mobile… There was a stuffed shark.

Its not about burning through stories. Its about giving characters potential to grow. AJ never had potential to grow because she’s a character that needs a lot of effort to make a mistake. A character that cannot make mistakes so easily cannot learn or grow either and you just can’t make MLP episodes about that… unless you’re just deliberately making pointless stories for fun.
 
Characters grow depending on their design. Do they have dreams? Do they have challenges? Do they have opinions about their world? Do they have desires and fears? If characters have these things, they will grow and make stories.

Is Smolder really a girl? I get the impression the six students have an equal gender balance. Three characters, Yona, Silver Stream and Occelus are unmistakably girls. Sand Bar and Gallus are unmistakably boys. Smolder could go either way.

Its because 3 ponies makes the most manageable number of main characters as a group of friends. If they’re just going for the toy aspect, background ponies are more than enough to fill that role. They want the main 3 to have the most substance and the most paths to develop and grow with deeper connection s with each other. The more “main” characters you have, the more that potential gets spread thin. And in most cases, the development is spread unevenly between the main characters. AJ got the least and I think Rarity (not Twilight) got the most in Gen 4.

They don’t break up. It was a misunderstanding. Sugar Belle moves into Ponyville. She helps out at Mr. and Mrs. Cake’s bakery… She’s the new Pinkie Pie, basically. And with the mane style to match.

They need 6 characters for some reason. I’m not sure why. They could easily get away with just 3, a unicorn, a pegasus and an earth pony. 4 if you count Spike living with one of them. They could even get away with just 2 characters, Twilight and Spike and everyone else other then those two are irregular recurring characters on the same level as Cheerilee or Celestia. AJ suffered from being one too many main characters that’s not needed in Gen 4.

I got the impression from the synopsis that the guy will be an impostor. Or be something of a similar nature to Finn’s dad from Adventure Time.

Its plot related stuff. Don’t worry about it. Its why they’re making the G5 version of Twilight be an earth pony instead of a unicorn. Its always more interesting to see a smart/resourceful protagonist use what they have to beat a strong enemy instead of a strong protagonist over powering an enemy.

Relationships isn’t about receiving happiness from your significant other, its about making them happy. Same applies to any relationship. Family, friends, etc, which is a great lesson to teach kids. Then again, most people can’t even differentiate between love, romance and sex…

I hope they keep Smolder’s gender a mystery. A lot of shinanigans can be made from it. They could even have a couple of episodes revolve around figuring the charcter’s gender.

Oooh! Interesting. S8 is super hype. I’m kind of feeling bad it got spoiled now. It makes all the previous episodes feel like filler. Out of all the leaked episodes I’ve seen, I liked all of them except for that one where AJ and RD were teaching this class of kids and are competing for best teacher of the month. That’s been done to death.  
That one with the CMC and that hippogrif was actually a reference for divorce.

That episode with Maud’s boyfriend was just having them as a background gag for H&H day. I don’t think there would actually be an episode around it. He looked like an older version of Stygian.
