They could have at least had Sludge, I dunno, working with Garble who has Sludge pretend to be Spike’s dad to crush Spike emotionally as some sort of revenge scheme. That would’ve honestly been interesting.
 
But no, instead he’s just a lazy bum.

That particular opinion might have more lukewarm reception amongst others here if there weren’t so many individuals involved in the production of episodes. It’s hard fairly to place the blame on a single person when there could be much happening behind the scenes that are unreported, and Twitter posts could be unreilable.
 
An example might be Mike Vogel’s involvement in the Movie before he was properly credited. Even that could be questionable as that too was a Twitter post.

Maybe you could argue that Garble manipulated Spike into helping him move the boulder that he was under, and capable of dislodging himself, just to rub it in Spike’s face.
 
But yeah… Garble? He’s just a dumbass sociopathic teenage dragon. He’d need some character development to plan like that.

According to Twilight, she compared Starlight and Trixie’s friendship to her’s and Cadence’s friendship. You know what that means. Trixie is going to marry Starlight’s brother. But Starlight doesn’t have a brother… Or does she?

There’s no small amount of explanations, but if you don’t get it, you don’t get it.

Honestly, the Spike/Smolder moments in Father Knows Beast were pretty good, outside of that, meh, Sludge was just a bland character.
