Okay Swedish dub again
||Okay so class is in session when the magic fails and everyone is worried about it. Cozy suggests Tirek might be behind everything but they are then summoned by Celestia and Luna to investigate the disappearance of magic. Celestia gets a letter from Starswirl saying something (Not sure what at this point). Regardless Twilight volunteers herself and the rest join her while Starlight stays behind at the school, which seems to disappoint Cozy so she invites her for tea (I assume? Not sure on this). But the next scene has Cozy being put in charge from a note by Starlight, saying she went off to go help the others. Cozy tries to take control of the situation and offers no homework, time off and cupcakes to the other students but the Student 6 are having none of that, to Cozy’s annoyance. Meanwhile Twilight reaches the gates of Tartarus but doesn’t have any magic to open the door, however Cozy managed to pack Twilight a magic horn thingy which fits the door perfectly and has magic enough to open the door, although it shatters after doing so and inside they find a bunch of ‘monsters’ in cages all looking miserable. Back at the school the Student 6 are studying regardless of pretty much everypony else taking the time off. They find Cozy coming up from the cave system and follow her, where they find her meeting with Neighsay. After finding Cerberus again, Twilight and co find Tirek, still in his cage and well acting like Hannibal Lecter, just without the cannibalism part. Cozy and Neighsay have some kind of plan which Cozy seems to disagree with, but the Students cause too much of a commotion and it gets Neighsay’s attention. He captures them with magic which he still has in his medallion, though Sandbar says he wants out of the group. Neighsay let’s him go, and it being a ruse he go grabs Apple Bloom and the CMC. Tirek in the meantime offers Twilight a deal on getting out of Tartarus, though the terms clearly benefit Tirek and that’s where it leaves off with them. Finally Sandbar shows the CMC the underground Dagobah cave where inside Starlight is trapped in some ruin using the 6 items that were used in the savager hunt from A Matter of Principle. Cozy goes on some rant, particually about Neighsay and crowns herself Queen or Empress or something like that all while manically laughing, ending the episode.
Overall I have to admit it’s an exceptionally effective beginning. They get right into the action and setting up the plot. The thing with Cozy is she is finally a villain that is using her wits to set herself up rather than some convenient power just being dropped into her lap. Twilight and co are taken out of the action, not off screen but from a ruse to lure them away, which is clever yet doesn’t undermine the characters. Another thing is that there is more than one villain, as Cozy seems to be the main threat, Nieghsay the scapegoat/Red Herring villain and Tirek, The Godzilla Thresehold/ Reluctant ally villain. That being said the biggest weakness is that because there are so many characters, the plot is spread out among them. Only Apple Bloom gets a line out of all the CMC and they only appear in the last 5 minutes while the Student 6 have overall less to do save Sandbar. Even Neighsay doesn’t appear until the final sting of the second act.
Going into Part 2 my estimation would be that Twilight does agree to whatever Tirek’s deal is but he gets the upper hand on them and escapes leaving them trapped, given the SDCC teaser video of Twilight going “We failed” not appearing in part 1. Sandbar will help the rest of the Student 6 get out as seen in the animatic. Neighsay will likely try to take over and Cozy will be able to use the resentment by the student body to turn favor away from Neighsay and onto herself, furthering whatever plan she has. The biggest unknown to me is the CMC. The Student 6 are more than likely set up to be the main heroes of this yet the CMC have never gotten involved in any two parter outside of Return of Harmony, so I can’t imagine they would be brought in just to do nothing. Guess we’ll see what happens tomorrow. ||
