Yeah, I though about it and you’re right. Ember would work as well or even better than Zecora for this (though the Zebra does seem to know more about dragons any other pony). And it would also be a cool way to establish her as a recurring friend to the group. I really want an episode like this like you wouldn’t imagine.

Maybe so, though she could just pop in near the end.
It could work either way though, since I believe a Twilight/Zecora combo would also work, with Zecora explaining the wings are a sign that he’s growing naturally this time, and Twilight being the one who makes them see he’ll always be Spike no matter how his form changes. You’re right though, they could very easily use Ember instead of Zecora for this.

Twilight would have to be absent for some reason during most of the episode though, which isn’t really a problem considering her responsabilities and how much he travels around offscreen now.

Not sure which those 2 episodes are (I’m guessing one is Zecora’s) but there’s a big difference though, and that’s that this would be about someone they’ve already known for a long time and become a part of their lives, instead of some new face they don’t know anything about, and are forming first impressions based on appereances.

The point would be that they know Spike very well, but they also kinda have a long history of being scared of dragons. For good, understandable reasons. Its been easy to overlook this for Spike since he’s always been so small and harmless-looking, but once he starts looking a bit closer to their stereotypical image of a “wild dragon”, they would instinctively slowly withdraw a bit from hanging out with him until it becomes more obvious that they’re trying to avoid him without thinking.

Then the moral is about how they come to realize he’s still the same lovable little guy he’s always been despite of how he looks now. Imo, this is very different from the Zecora thing where they didn’t know her (and probably any another Zebra) at all, and just let their imagination and close mindedness run free. But to each their own.

Honestly, calling spike a “baby dragon” seems really forced in the show anyways, like something that the hasbro suits wanted him to be referred to early on in the show when they were aiming for a much younger and stereotypical girls demographic.

Not all the fandom does. I, and others here actually like his work. We’re just afraid to speak out sometimes ‘cause of the haters, or because we’re tired of the drama anytime an image from any issue he draws for gets posted here.

Also, Derpibooru doesn’t really speak for the entire fandom.

@Background Pony #B914
We’ve already had some episodes similar to that, so I dunno. Still, wouldn’t mind Spike getting more love, though I still prefer he stay small, and wingless. Though, I wouldn’t mind seeing a “what if” futuristic episode, or something.

You know, I think Curnow knows how much the fandom hates Fosgitt, and gives him more work as a result.

At least, that’s what I like to think.

@FurryXXI
“We”? I’m pretty sure a majority of bronies celebrated when she announced she was leaving. No doubt she was happy, too.

@Background Pony #B914
It’d probably become the fandom’s favorite episode, even though there’s already been two episodes based around “don’t judge someone based on their appearance”. Meanwhile, every Fluttershy episode gets dismissed as “Oh great, she’s overcoming shyness again.”

I agree its cute, but if he grows them, I was assuming it would be when he was too big to keep riding her anyways. Ember/Garble’s size maybe. Also, I think it would add to the story as a symbol that he’s really growing up for real this time. It would be a useful way to represent the difference from what happened in SomE, and how he’s growing seriously now.

Imo, it would also make for a nice episode where everyone maybe starts taking slight notice of his growth, but its the sprouting of wings that really makes everyone realize he’s an actual dragon, so they start acting a bit differently around him until the moral hits and everyone understands that scary predator or not, he’ll always be the Spike they know.

Perhaps, but as I said in my opinion, I just personally prefer him without them, and having another character randomly grow them would be a bit redundant, and wouldn’t really add anything to the show.

Besides, it’s kinda cute when Spike rides on Twilight’s back, and having wings would get rid of that.

I didn’t mean that I thought he’ll definetly grow them, but rather than growing them wouldn’t be the same as when Twilight did. It could go either way, the point is, unlike with Twicorn, the fanbase really shouldn’t have any reason to complain because its a natural thing for his species.

Well, we’ve seen Spike small, and big with no wings, so it’s easy to understand why some see him as a wingless species.
But yeah, dragon culture is quite confusing.

In canon/EU it’s actually weird because some dragons are apparently fully sapient (Spike, Ember, Torch, all of the Dragonlands etc) while others are seemingly feral/possibly mute(the ones on Dazzle Island, Daring Do’s personal dragon mount she rescued)

All of them have wings, though. From birth too, though the only ones we’ve seen born in an illustration were the “feral” kind of dragons who are as big or bigger than Spike as hatchlings and who had huge eggs. So yeah.
Background Pony #D994
Besides, we already have a character whom “evolved” wings, and having another might be overkill.
Difference being, that with Twilight wings were an entirely magical/non-natural aspect.
With Spike being a dragon, it’d actually be natural for him to grow wings. Just growing up, since pretty much every dragon bigger than him has them. So if they did it, they could just say “well duh, he’s a dragon of course he was going to grow wings eventually by aging naturally. SomE? That wasn’t natural.”, and no one would really have an argument against that.
