Watched this scene with someone who was seeing shipping between these two in parts of the film where there was none. Upon referring to this scene as shipping too I began to interject. But then the faces touched.
 
I’m not a shipper and I do not like shipping, but damnit, even I can’t deny that this was super gay.

Most of the shipping claims for “two ponies doing X together” I tend to discount out of hand, because this fandom (and probably much of society under the age of about 30) tends to put a romantic spin on activities that can clearly be, or even are clearly intended to be, purely platonic. This one’s a bit different, because it’s obvious that the show staff know how popular Lyrabon is within the fandom. It’s not that I think the staff is going “They’re totes in lesbians with each other” with this scene, so much as “They’re very close to each other, and if you want to interpret that as a romantic relationship, we’re not going to stop you”.

I really don’t see it. I mean I guess if you wanted to see proof for a relationship headcanon with those faces but those faces could easily be interpreted for literally anything. An overly exited face which Lyra is known for and BonBons face which could be anything from having told a joke to explaining to anything. You could see it if you want but it would be vague evidence at best.

I’m not sure if I like the ending with both being in love with the other, one being in love with the other but the other isn’t really lesbian, both being lesbians but only one of them is interested in the other, or both being lesbians but not into each other the most for that line of thinking.

Speaking of, building on your idea, the human Lyra and BonBon form a band with the appeal of them being lesbians. They carry on the act for awhile, but one of them (or both) develops genuine feelings for the other.

I just had a crazy thought, what if they’re just trying to appear lesbian to win over & appeal to those that are into that sort of thing?
