There weren’t many, I think. But it was established her magic worked like no one else’s, but better, without many drawbacks.

You know I don’t actually think it is that dumb, Twilight has been taught by Princess Celestia her whole life and puts a lot of stock into authority and those above her (hence her freakouts and what have you). I think she considers the Map, or whatever it is that runs the map, to be an authority and doesn’t want to disappoint it.
 
On that note I really do wonder what exactly is running the map anyway. Is it the Tree of Harmony? Some kind of God/Goddess of their universe? Some kind of nebulous cosmic force likely of Magic and/or Friendship and/or Harmony?
 
I guess it’s most likely the Tree (and I suspect the Tree of Harmony is also those two other things I mentioned as well) but it could be something else.

I may be remembering wrong, but I think Twilight had overpowered magic since Season One. Sadly I don’t have a list of episodes where Twilight solved the problem with straight up magic.
 
For this episode I did think it was dumb that Twilight was letting the castles magic map tell her where she could or couldn’t go.

How? Unicorn Twilight would solve the problem as well. Twilicorn isn’t look more powerful than normak Twilight.

I’m not surprised she’s bored. She’s probably read everything in her collection (which I’m assuming is gargantuan) at least 200 times now. She’s probably memorized the dictionary.

Why are they keep making them so cute?

yeah, it was pretty smart of the writers to show that twilight being able to fix everything may be too cheap to have the appropriate impact and actually fix the problem
 
too bad they can’t fix the underlying problem without revoking her princess status and alicorn species, amirite? oh yes, it was a good decision indeed

I love how the writers even felt it incumbent upon them to have Applejack COMMENT on how easily Twilight could have just fixed up the damn play site, and then work it in how things wouldn’t have worked right if she HAD.
 
I can’t tell if this acknowledges the underlying problem, or just makes excuses for keeping Twilight away from the plot when she otherwise has every bit of reason to be involved.
 
That’s twice now that a map quest has snubbed her. I really hope she gets a damn episode before the season ends.

Yeah, it’s kind of silly that Twilight didn’t feel like she could go to other, non-map related parts of Manehatten. It’s a big place, after all.

Yes, and I would have enjoyed that. Or the problem would have been solved by other means.
 
Twilight was bored and really wanted to go. The only reason she didn’t was because her butt didn’t glow.  
To see them fail for bringing the wrong pony along would give the map some credibility. And the other two could have send Twilight off to the libraries or something once they noticed her help wasn’t helping.

IKR? She was shown being exhausted and/or worrying intensely in multiple episodes so she should be the one pony to appreciate a bit of downtime.

She’d fix Griffonstone in seconds too - with the same outcome. I liked how it was acknowledged in today’s episode.

If Twilight had been there, they’d have gotten her to fix up the original stage, and the friendship problem wouldn’t have been fixed.
 
The map knows who to send, and just as importantly, who NOT to send.

I’ve been on this situation more times than what I’d like to admit.

strange that Twilight is bored. I would think that with all the activities with her friends and her duties as princess she has little time to actually read.  
Though maybe because it is that because she normally is so busy that she is now bored with having multiple slow days in a row.

So many books and nothing to read!
 
I hoped Twi would go with them anyway instead of having her life dictated by some magical plot device.

Walk into the Everfree Forrest and punch everything, try to invent new overpowered magic, hang out with your good buddy Moondancer. Maybe see if Celestia or Luna could use help with something?
 
I’d have more ideas if I read fanfiction maybe, but it seems rare that there would be no adventure going on at all.
