I think it makes it much better. Now it explains why the changeling’s grammar and infiltration ‘skills’ were so lacking; because the changeling was just born!

I don’t know what you’re talking about, he seems pretty competent to me. He quickly and accurately identified the problem, knew that the source was nearby, and was even able to spot the Queen immediately, despite her being in disguise!
Heck, that’s more competent than anyone was during the Canterlot invasion.
