@Jarkes
For the most part, at least you’ll be cosplaying as Luigi, Wario, and Waluigi throughout the game.
Never thought of trying that. I didn’t get the badge ’till just before I went to the island though.
And if you had the W Emblem on during the first fight with Doopliss in Chapter 4 (since it was the only one you could have at the time), the twist about Doopliss stealing Mario’s identity is made even more obvious than it already was because Mario’s suddenly in his standard outfit again.
Yeah, I guess I got a li’l sick of that stuff to, but I’m still a casual Sonic fan personally. (Though, I haven’t kept up with the recent games for WiiU and such.) I don’t like letting the negative fans “ruin” things I like. If I did that, I wouldn’t even be a brony, and wouldn’t even be on this site now. (Some bronies gave me crap for my opinions on MLP, as well.)
I think some also hate Shadow, because of all the Shadow rip-off fan-characters/OCs that spawned after his introduction. (And all the “recolors” made people hate even the official/canon “recolors” like Shadow.)
So he comes off as like a “fan-OC” to some, or his more serious/angsty personality feel out of place in the Sonic universe to some who are used to the more light-hearted ealier Genesis games. (Granted, the Shadow game kinda brought closure to his angst/emo attitudes, and he doesn’t really brood anymore.) Though, some forget even the old 2D games still had their dark/edgy things about them. (Like the “Death Egg”)
There’s actually an ongoing argument between Sonic fans, and Sonic-haters alike that feel the series should either be “more light-hearted, surreal, and comical,” and others who feel it should be more “darker, edgier, and be more serious.” Fans are so divided on what the Sonic series should be on so many things (due to whatever game/cartoon/version/era of Sonic they grew up with) that it’s difficult for Sega to please their fans, or critics.
I love Shadow, and I always acted like the hate on him for ‘ruining sonic’ was more or less using him as a scapegoat to say “i don’t like games X, Y, and Z”. I just get so tired of seeing hate for him and games of that era to be treated as fact outside the community like “shadow is sonic’s shitty recolor” or “every 3D sonic game before Colors (or whatever) was shit”. I despise ‘factual’ hatred on things in any fandom, especially when I like the things being hated on, makes me feel like I’m being made fun of for liking said ‘shitty games’, and not the ‘clearly superior sonic only modern games’.
Things like that are why I said goodbye to the Sonic fandom for good, but again, other fandoms and of course, as I said, outside of it, can be just as terrible and guilty of the same thing.
[/end unrelated rant]
No, I saw a fanart piece somebody drew of a “Mario & Luigi/Wario & Waluigi” game with all 4 characters. I’m more into fanart, then fanfics.
Really? That’s almost all I ever see in regards to him from older Sonic fans. (Some even blame him for why “the Sonic series is bad.” Which is a bit overkill, as he hasn’t been featured in many games much in the past 10 years sense his first/only starring role.)
Though, while they hate him, Shadow seems more popular with younger Sonic fans, or those who like SA2 alot.
Are you referring to the Mario & Luigi game idea that was created on FanFiction? If I could remember the name of the story I would post a direct link to it for confirmation.
I have seen replies regarding the similar face structures between Peach and Rosalina, but not so much as complaints brought about it. I kinda can see the differences to make both of them indistinguishable; Peach’s face is slightly plump while Rosalina’s are slightly slended. It also helps their hair style makes a big difference.
I really don’t recall much about fanrage on Shadow being a clone character. His unique powers/abilities and his direct control over the Chaotic Force makes him stand out as a standalone character.
Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I liked how those badges didn’t require any badge points too, so you could freely use them.
Don’t forget the “W Emblem” badge in Thousand-Year Door, which change Mario’s clothes to have Wario’s color scheme. And when combined with the “L Emblem” (which normally made Mario resemble Luigi, which led to that HILARIOUS Trouble Center quest with Luigi’s biggest fan), it became Waluigi’s color scheme.
I remember a fan had a good idea of having a “Mario & Luigi” series game also featuring Wario & Waluigi. I doubt it’ll ever happen though. The main canon Mario games, and RPGs practically pretend they don’t exist however. (Aside from the “Wario Ware” poster cameo’ing in M&L.)
I actually kinda like that design, but either way she kinda looks like a “Princess Peach” look-alike to me. Surprised nobody ever calls her that, considering all the hatred for characters like “Shadow the Hedgehog,” and such.
Maybe one day Wario and Waluigi will be a optional boss in the Mario & Luigi series, just like they did for the Shroobs in M&L:BiS.
Funny thing, when Rosalina was in development she was going to be Peach’s long lost relative, but the devs scraped that off because that will make a lot of unnecessary confusion among the fans. Even her first concept design was radically changed.
I’m glad they made some changes or else Rosalina will be nothing more than another obscured Mario character.
@Jarkes
I’m not 100% certain, but someone did pointed out that the phrase, ‘Too Bad, Waluigi’, was quoted in one of the past Mario games featuring Waluigi. I’m not sure which, but it wasn’t recognizable until Brawl in the Family made it popular.
Y’know, I actually kinda miss the old “Player’s Guides” Nintendo of America used to publish themselves. Some of ‘em had some rare official game art in them, had cool maps, and such. …And they cost half of what PRIMA charges for their’s now. (You can get some games for how much they charge for their guides now.)
Yeah, but it’s never been in any actual games. I know Prima’s basically in some kind of partnership with Nintendo…
Funny thing about Prima: They used to have a not-entirely-undeserved reputation of having really CRAPPY guides, full of inaccurate information and sometimes not even having certain info. Heck, they still have that problem in a lot of their more recent guides, it’s just not as bad as it used to be. I’m not sure if it was actually them doing the Pokemon strategy guides since Platinum, but those are REALLY good.
Actually, the prima guide for Mario Kart 8 has Waluigi’s bio info short and simple.
Everyday is Waluigi time
I’m legitimately surprised that Nintendo has never made a reference to that, either in social media or in an actual game.
I recall a few of those complaints shortly after Galaxy 1’s release, but they died out pretty quickly.
Yeah, I can’t really see Waluigi getting his own game, but I would like to see a game that pits Mario & Luigi, against Wario & Waluigi.
Rosalina is quite popular. I’m surprised people don’t call her a “Princess Peach” clone, or bash her, like they do say Shadow the Hedgehog, and such.
Trust me, I know it will never happen. The best thing for secondary characters are making an cameo appearance or having a minior support role in the main adventure games that doesn’t directly affect the story/plot. And that’s only if Nintendo will ever do it. Wario only got it good because he ascended in popularity and, in literal word of sense, stole the “Land Series” from Mario and eventually rose to gain his own sideseries, Warioware.
Amazingly, Rosalina came about the same way, although she doesn’t have a game of her own she did made plenty cameos and became playable a few times (SM3DW & Puzzles & Dragons + SMBedition) dew to immense popularity with the fans.
As for Wario and Waluigi. Hard to say because of true lack of development on relationship. It has been regarded among fans that both Wario and Waluigi are brothers, however its been more and more suggested that the duo are partners with a common interest in the games.
It’ll never happen, but I am curious why Wario & Waluigi never really get regarded in the main action Mario games, or RPGs. (Only ones Wario’s been in are SML2, and Super Mario 64 DS) They only appear in the sports, party, and kart spin-offs for the most part.
Waluigi was an antagonist in “DDR: Mario Mix,” and “Game & Watch Gallery 4” though.
I recall, Miyamoto said the reason Wario wasn’t in the NewSMB games, is because he’s physically quite different from Mario & Luigi, (and jokingly remarked, he’d also need a “fart” attack) so they used 2 Toads instead, sense they’re the characters closest to being the same as Mario & Luigi.
Oh, I wasn’t even aware of that. Well, things have changed; not much hate from what I have seen, only a bunch of whinny fans complaining that Waluigi doesn’t have a game of his own in his name.
Maybe he’s a li’l move loved then he used to be, but a few years back alot of Mario/Wario-fans hated him.
Really? I know that when it comes to secondary characters they are pretty expandable and get rotated around for playability. But the devs have given most of them, like Daisy and Waluigi, unique animations and creative abilities.
Plus, Waluigi does have at least one meme to his name
Same. Still, Waluigi needs some love. (He’s one of the least-appreciated Mario characters.)
