have you ever considered that that scene, and similar scenes were written not to make it “canon” but to pander to the fans?  
tbh I’m not against lesbians in cartoons, I just feel that shipping isn’t for this show in general, mainly because of how it clashes with the tone of the show itself  
either way you slice it

but the writers nod to lyrabon with a little fanservice

Bro/Sis! Funny thing: female gay couples seem more socially okay than male gay couples. At least that’s how it seems to me personally since I have yet to see a cartoon series displaying two gay male characters in a relationship or even two gay men flirting.
 
Also as an example Steven Universe as a cartoon is bursting with almost explicit lesbian suggestiveness.
