I do hate to be the voice of reason, especially when it concerns Mauxie, but balloons blown up via the mouth cannot float, because carbon dioxide (which you inhale) is heavier than air. They’d have to be either filled with helium or otherwise magicked by Trixie.
 
Maybe they float because the gag is that Trixie is full of hot air?

It’s nice to see that Maud isn’t always the unshakeable rock that supports the flawed Trixie with her insecurities; she has flaws too, and at those times it’s Trixie’s turn to be supportive. In a way, it makes for a good relationship balance.
 
And Maud being duplicitous? Yeah, Trixie would enjoy those traits. Maud is a real gem, with all her facets.

I tend to think of Maud as being basically like Toph from ATLA. Super connected with the ground to the point of being basically crippled when out of contact with it.

Maybe the temperature of Trixie’s breath is especially high. Assuming pressure is constant, the same amount of gas would occupy a larger volume, making it less dense than the atmosphere and thus causing it to float upward. Trixie is pretty full of hot air, isn’t she?
