There was this one movie I was watching with my ma, it was a real moody thriller type. But she noticed almost straight away that some scenes had weird lighting. I noticed it too, and then I told her about the blue/orange filter trope. This movie had gone all out; oranges like spray-tan, blues like a cool ranch Dorito packet. It was really bad in almost every scene and we were just cracking up. We could not take this film seriously.
What bothers me about this sort of thing is that people claim it applies even in situations where it would be stupid for that color scheme to not exist (such as an orange fire underneath a blue sky).
