I think it came about because pears are basically really gritty apples.
 
so it makes sense that, being such a strong supporter of apples, she would hate a similar but inferior fruit.

I’d guess it has something to do with it not being an apple. According to the fandom, the entire Apple family is totally obsessed with apples and never deal with or consume anything not apple related to apples.  
However between the shows and comics canonicalism there is nothing hindering them from enjoying other fruits or dealing with stuff not-apple related. There is Uncle Orange in Manehatten, I wish there would be more details on what the Orange family does in Manehattan, maybe grow oranges? The only popular fan made art that I’ve seen here is a bit ‘not-creepy’ for my tastes….
