They were all dead. The final gunshot was an exclamation mark to everything that had led to this point. I released my finger from the trigger. And then it was over.

Fluttershy trembled in my arms, still shaking from the cold rain and gunfire. I sat down, put my coat around her and held her close. She was safe and that was all that mattered. Suddenly, for the first time in I don’t know how long, I realized, I didn’t wish to be dead.
