Because the original dolls were meant to imitate Monster High. Personally I hate the focus on the lips that Monster High and the Equestria Girls dolls have, the characters look way better without them.

So true. Good paint can’t totally fix the wonky head sculpt but I would have considered buying them anyway, if they looked like this out of the box. Repainted, they kind of remind me of Japanese fashion dolls based on anime characters where the face shapes are kind of off.
