this pic sure is poster sized jesus.
i do hope we get at least 1 non spin off movie, hopefully with a higher than the show budget and a decent story.

I think that a movie that moved around the dragon origins of Sike, which still remain in mystery would make for a marvelous movie: it doesnt take out the Mane 6’s protagonism, it includes Spike, it has the potential to be 2 or more hours long and it also gives room por true EPICNESS to take place you know, ’cause dragons and all. Dont you think?

It’s… nice… but it would make for a REALLY bad poster.

Posters need to be able to get themselves across even at a distance. It’s nice to have tiny details for the person invested in the lore and continuity, if it’s an adaptation, but this sort of thing could only work if something huge and recognizable took up the majority of the image, communicating that this must be MLP.

So given that, when we look at this, from a distance we’re seeing some blotches of cool blue colors with a pink blotch of words at the bottom.

Getting closer, we’d notice it was a cave, but otherwise we’d shrug. Then we’d read the title to see what the fuss is about, and go “Oh. Well, okay I guess. Oh wait, you can see the characters IN the cave… I guess this movie is about ponies in caves.”

Plus, for a movie poster, the title is incredibly tiny. Unless you’re setting up a SERIES of posters, and trying to create intrigue by not GIVING a title… And even then, MLP just isn’t so mainstream that you can rely on the zeitgeist to make big on it.

Plainly, it’s a nice image, and would make a nice shot IN a movie… but it’s not a good poster.
