Actually most people want to have that cognitive dissonance in their heads of this nice little grimdark fantasy where things are never “bad” and “aw she is his pet isn’t that cute?”
I seem to be the only person who doesn’t bullshit himself about how dark the universe is and even demands it become more realistic in how the females would actually be treated.
Don’t forget that any stallion that resists the magic and disagrees with the treatment of mare slaves are magical turned into mares and forced into slavery themselves. So any stallion that did like things such as marriage and treating his wife like a wife would be dealt with by all the other stallions.

Just because the Crystal Cock’s spell makes mares more subservient and males more dominant, it doesn’t make the males soulless monsters, they still retain their previous personalities, just tweaked. As for Stockholm Syndrome, that is true but some husbands and red collar wives and daughters still carry on as things were “normal”, at least behind closed doors. It’s insane, but not always that bad.

And love wouldn’t exist in that world only ownership and maybe the slave would have Stockholm syndrome. The owners would have no emotions for the slave beyond using them until they become useless then discard them for another useful slave.
Quite the contrary, Fall of Equestria might not seem like a “romantic” setting but marriage is still possible, just with some rather different customs. Such as Spike and Rarity still share a love, despite the troubles Rarity has fallen into, and a certain role play on the forums explored a possible marriage between the two. A shame it ended with the RP ban on FimFiction.
