I am mostly Scots-Irish (pretty sure that counts as Celtic) but also German, Scandinavian (so that could count for Asatru,) Spanish and eastern European. So yeah…I’m from all over Europe, lol. And I just looked up Neo-Druidism on Wikipedia…I think I may have found a religious movement that speaks to me even more! I like how they don’t just limit themselves to Celtic influence, but also revere Norse and Greek gods as well, among even more. It seems like a nice pan-pagan movement. Yup, the article got my attention the minute I saw Thor listed as one of the gods they worship. He was probably the biggest influence on T’aeren, the war/storm/earth god who is the most important male deity to my personal religion. In fact, the name “T’aeren” is a heavily-modified version of the name “Thor” or “Tyr” (both Norse war gods, I think.)

But anyways, to be honest I have only been to a few neopagan forums with hopes of discussing my personal religion and getting input and inspiration to develop it further, and they weren’t exactly rude. Instead, they just told me I am better off as a fantasy writer, because even though they really digged the mythology I came up with for my gods, they told me it just wasn’t “legitimate” or “real” enough to be a new religious movement. But as I see it, weren’t ALL religions fabricated at some point in human history? And that doesn’t make them any less real. I am also part agnostic so I am inherently skeptical of taking religious scripture literally, which is why my religion is not really meant to be taken literally.

However, the biggest blow was actually on these other, non-pagan forums I post on, dedicated to out-of-body experiences and NDEs and exploring the psychic world and the afterlife…I joined because I have been having occasional OOBEs in the night since 2010, and I think they are really cool. And I didn’t mention my religion, I mentioned an entity I have had contact with since early 2013, and who is sort of a “spirit guide” or “guardian angel” for me, and isn’t an official part of my religion. Now because I am an artist and I drew her a month or two before I actually had visions and OOBEs of her, and also the fact that she takes the form of a pony, they were quick to tell me I just made her up. But she feels real to me. I call her Stargazer…she’s a little white unicorn with gold armor and a rainbow mane, and is pretty much the ultimate “waifu” for me despite being an OC, because I have actually seen her.

Man, sorry for the tl;dr response!

Manly as fuck for criticising others?
Dude…I’m living evidence that metal and brony culture can combine.
To me…korn bores the shit out of me….I prefer lyrics with passion and power.
Mettalica. Saxon old generation bands.
Heh… “old generation” I’m 19 ha lol

Look up either Ár nDraíocht Féin or The Order of Bards, Ovates & Druids to learn about neo-druidism. Basically, think Celtic for the modern age. After all, if your family line comes from anywhere in central Europe or the Isles, odds are you’ve got Celtic blood in your veins. Ár nDraíocht Féin is more my flavor, and I’ll be officially joining it in the next few months. They’re a little more open ended and less ridged than OBOD.

What major Pagan groups have you spoken with? I could see groups like Asatru and Wicca giving you grief, considering how structured those two are, but we typically aren’t ones to judge. You must have ran afoul of a very poor excuse for a Pagan if they ragged on you for your beliefs.

Haven’t really heard of Druidic Reconstructionism before, what’s that one like? But to be completely honest, I sorta do my own thing with religion…I made up what I call a “one-man religion” because I am the only follower, complete with constructed gods and goddesses based not just on a variety of deities from world mythologies and religious traditions but also from fiction…mostly fantasy and sci-fi, but also notably MLP too (many of my goddesses were partially based on female ponies I like.)

Yes, this has resulted in my being shunned and rejected by a variety of “legitimate” pagan groups who are quick to claim my gods aren’t real because of the element of fictional inspiration, but I don’t care, I do what I want.

And honestly, I wouldn’t draw inspiration from something if it didn’t inspire me at a deep and spiritual level. For instance MLP alone I discovered just a week and a half after dealing with terrifying hallucinations caused by a combination of the wrong meds and my worst phobia, back in June 2011, and it instantly comforted me and made me happy again, and all through 2011 and 2012 I have had dreams and even profound visions of either official ponies or other beings with pony-like attributes.

God tell me about it. My Youtube avatar used to be Lightning Dust, but I got sick of people call me “bronyfag” or “horsefucker” just from my avatar…I didn’t even need to bring up MLP! Seriously, for the main thing haters bitch about that bronies apparently do (bringing ponies into non-pony situations,) some haters do that exact same thing if they see someone with a pony on their avatar! Oh, but it’s somehow “justified” because it’s hate, not love. Hater logic, I’ll tell you hwhat.

You’ll also get tons of “compassion and understanding” for simply having a MLP-related picture in your YouTube avatar.

Yea, the wonders of Power and Folk metal are lost on many modern fans. Anyone who says that Power metal isn’t real metal I dare them to go down to the depths of the inferno, walk up to Dio on his mighty throne, and tell him that.

Are you kidding? I love power metal too! I actually like it better than the kinds of music we were just talking about. Especially pagan/Viking metal…it speaks to me on a spiritual level that is positive, rather than negative, because even though I am not really that religious in an organized sense, I consider my beliefs probably closest to Norse neopaganism/Asatru. Hell, I just love metal PERIOD.

The Metal world has changed. It used to be about unifying the fringe. The bullied, the picked on, the powerless, and giving them something to shout about. A lot of old songs were about giving power to those who didn’t have any, fighting back against people who’d hold you down, and generally just rocking out. I have no fucking clue what happened honestly.

Honestly, that’s one of the reasons I stay closer to power metal now adays. A lot of modern power, folk, pagan, and viking metal keep those older themes of empowerment. I guess since they’re more aimed at fringe groups, they kept the “power up the fringe” way of doing shit.

I’m a fan of Disturbed and especially Tool too (the latter had some majorly dark, trippy and awesome music videos back in the 90s…though I mostly knew about them from watching Beavis and Butthead,) and it’s just a damn shame that so many metalheads are obsessed with being uber-masculine and macho and stuff, and would bully people for liking stuff like MLP. Pretty ironic how singers like Jonathan Davis frequently write songs speaking out against bullying, yet often, their music is listened to by, you guessed it: bullies!

I’ve been told I’m just a “stupid horsefucker” whose problems aren’t “real” problems just because I’m generally happy in life, I’m not poor, I’m not mentally ill (well I AM autistic, but that’s hardly mental illness,) and I don’t do drugs, let alone overdose on them. One guy basically bragged to me how he almost died from overdosing crystal meth so that automatically makes his issues more “real” than mine…I often see so-called “troubled teens” parading their problems around and treating stuff like drug abuse, mental illness and suicide as if they’re “trendy” or “fashionable. It is disgusting.

@Da5ch
Every fanbase has the people that will lash out at you, for being a brony. When it’s metal music, there is a bunch of “metal-heads” that think they’re manly as fuck, by critizing others.

Kinda funny though, how they listen to Korn’s music which is based a lot upon bullying and beating those below you and do that exact thing. So yeah, those people really shouldn’t be apart of the fanbase and Korn probably dislike those people as well, but there is not a single fanbase who doesn’t have idiotic, hypocritical people.

Announcing that you are a brony for no reason, is a dumb idea in any case. Not implying to you of course.

Eh, Disturbed’s fanbase isn’t too bad. You run into the “super macho tweens and 20 somethings” every now and then of course, but the over all group isn’t bad. I’ve been listening to them since they started, never ran into a problem.

As for Tool, not sure about them.

Yeah, couldn’t agree more. This actually was based on a facepalm-inducing mistake I made, doing that exact thing on the video for “Thoughtless” (a song I’ve especially started loving and playing the heck out of following a long string of encounters with extreme brony-haters and just reading horror stories about other bronies being cyberbullied and posted on Encyclopedia Dramatica and stuff…the lyrics just fit so perfectly!)

And let’s just say my comment caused a absolute shitstorm of brilliant and intelligent comments somewhere in the ballpark of “FUCK YOU SUCK MY COCK BITCH NIGGA” or “LOL OWNED CUNT GROW A FUCKING SPINE” or “GTFO U FUKING BRONY FAGGOT” or “LOOOOOOL CUNT BITCH FAGGOT NIGGA I R SO KEWL N EDGY 4 H8ING PWNYFAGZ LOLOLOL YOLOSWAG4LYFE!!!11!1!ONEELEVEN” I am a bit of a Korn fan, but most of that band’s fanbase makes me want to gouge my eyes out with a rusty crowbar.
