lol, the first pic is really negative sepia, not true negative

I have no idea what you’re talking about in here.. all I’m seeing is negative filters being applied unnecessarily, breaking any immersion one viewer could have with this being a dreamlike landscape. not to mention, the stark and bizarre coloring of the two characters doesn’t create any disorientation, it just looks absurd.
 
if anything, it’s more without the filters that you could see a passage from safety to danger, in a dreamlike representation, because where they both stand is safe, where they’re headed are the nightmares/visions Luna shows SB.

The colors are inverted because that’s not a thing that happens in real life. Because it’s dreamlike, surreal, unnatural. It also helps balance both Sweetie and Luna to stand out in a really stark, unusual way from the dark, ambiguous background, and helps compose the focus of the shot towards the lit doorway.

well.. now I’m just left wondering, why the hell did they not just use this shot instead? it looks so much better, even the white background is a lot more artistic.
 
It’s like going from where they stand, the light representing the good dream, into darkness, which could have easily represented the nightmare.

They could also have made it not look like a dream at all, but I liked the dream effects they used.

Luna needs to stop pressing Select + B when she starts the game… :P

They could have used black background even if the characters are normally coloured.

The opening of the door wouldn’t have been dreamatic if it hadn’t been full of un-light.
