Yeah, “a little!”, pal!
Was that really necessary?
Exactly. This entire episode was just a middle finger from the writer.
just to make her look bad
…Nnnope. At no time was there any attempt at publicly shaming Rainbow Dash. Sorry, but that just did not happen. MDW only ever interacted with RD by running away, and when the Other Five were teasing Dash at Sugercube Corner– and that’s all it freakin’ was, teasing– that was a private venue, and she took off in a huff without bothering to listen to what they were saying.
spotlight
There was no “spotlight stealing”. MDW showed up, saved some folks, and took off. That was kindasorta the whole point of MDW, that she did her good deeds and got the hay out without gloryhogging.
LIED to her
Sure, right, they “lied to her” just like they “lied to” Pinkie when they set up her birthday party, or like RD “lied to” any of the people she’s played pranks on throughout the series. Applejack is not a Vulcan, she doesn’t have some kind of logic shackles around her rhetoric; how honest would it be to let Dash keep on being an ass without letting her know she was getting out of hoof? They had tried just telling her, but she wouldn’t listen; the only way it was ever going to get through to her was if they gave her an example, and she tripped all the balls and took that example exactly the wrong way.
We are talking about saving ponies, yet you and others refer to it as if it was just another of her sports, something that belongs to her… I’ll never understand it, I find it very f*cked up.
But even then, they didn’t try to ““steal her spotlight””, at all. They didn’t stop her from trying, they appeared only when it was clear she wasn’t enough, wich was the case mostly because her ego got in the way (as the episode makes very clear), they never tried to make her look bad or showed any sign of animosity (again, they were saving others, just doing what she was doing doesn’t count), they made a role model for Rainbow Dash while saving both ponies from harm and Rainbow Dash from the bad reputation that not saving the ponies would bring her, they didn’t point at her faliures to others, they could have become famous as themselves like Rainbow Dash did and effectively steal her spotlight but didn’t through the use of a costume, they wanted her to be a hero, a real one; it was Rainbow Dash who took it the wrong way.
Rainbow Dash’s reaction doesn’t equal the other’s intention. Why would the others react with surprise and confusion towards Rainbow Dash snapping at Sugarcube Corner if that was supposely their intention? The episode is full of hints that point against the bad things that are constantly said about it, because that was never true to begin with, it’s just a poisonous, overexposed headcanon. It’s like people just watched it once and since then they have been writing about it based on what they wanted to think, in their desire to defend Rainbow Dash and demonize the others, and taking advantage of the episode not focusing in the others much.
It doesn’t matter. RD may be a bit Narcissistic, but that doesn’t mean she’s a selfish bitch. Tell me, What kind of friends go behind your back and pretend to steal your spotlight as someone you want to be? Rainbow Dash shouldn’t be the one learning a lesson, her friends should. They fucking LIED to her in the scene in sugarcube corner when RD was mad because of Mare-Do-Well and her own friends pretended that they didn’t know a damn thing. Even Apple Jack, Element of Honesty, and RD’s good friend had to play along.
Now that’s trying way too hard, trying to imply that the others endangered ponies. They saved ponies while showing Rainbow Dash how to be a hero, and didn’t intend nor expect Rainbow Dash to take it the way she did; that was all her and her own fault.
Also shameless (self?)promotion.
This DA stamp speaks for everyone who hates this episode.
What was the fucking Moral of this episode anyway?!
“Remember kids, if you have a friend who boasts about themselves in being the hero, teach em’ a lesson. Cause loving yourself is baaaaad!
RD becomes a hero, and her closest friends decide to go through all of that just to make her look bad. WHAT KIND OF FRIENDSHIP IS THAT?!
“This was a mean spirited episode, and the whole idea behind it is really drastic. As if Rainbow was incapable of being reasoned with, so the best thing to do is to risk the lives of countless ponies around Ponyville by letting her go on with it despite her big-headedness which would nearly get some ponies killed! I mean geez, isn’t that a great moral for kids? It’s manipulative, it’s ends justifies the means mentality, and it proves two wrongs don’t make a right.” - JameytheHedgehog

@Ace the Fox
The one that got aired was a great ending, except for that horrid wink at the camera.
On second thought, SCREW IT! Nobody cares what you think, anyways.
OK then, what do you think is a good Mare-do-well alternative ending fanfic.
They suck, specially the second one.
I agree. Thankfully, there’s a lot of alternative ending fanfics out here.
Here’s one of them.
And another one…
