Basically an altered state of Poe’s Law, where you can’t tell which people are parodying the movement that others genuinely believe in, like Conservapedia? People like this dude or this fellow seem genuine.

I’m pretty sure that after a certain point, the NLR was pretty much a satire of itself… I’ve talked to a few people around here who have said that most of the people who are part of the group now don’t actually take it seriously.

@Poptard Me either now that you mention it. Fuck! I’m used to saving pony pics due to ragequits/fandom leavings, but the only fics I save are FOE-related and a handful of ‘fandom classics’ like My Little Alicorn. Le sads.
 
Well, here goes the cliffnotes version then. Basically Celestia is becoming paranoid and slowly morphing into Tyrantlestia, or maybe Great Benevolent Dictatorlissimomlestia would be better to describe, as after an accident nearly kills Twilight she starts making ponies live in safe-safe-safe bubbles totally free of even emotional conflict and lethal probability for their own good and pretty much goes Lesson Zero over the entire Principality. Feels like the ‘real’ form of propaganda populist leaders like Castro whip up around themselves as ‘great protectors’ of their people always there to be a crutch. In this case it’s quite literal as her continual interference and risk-adversity is smothering the country beneath a soft comfy pillow of servitude.
 
Luna and Celestia have a heated fight, Twilight speaks up and gets snapped at pretty hard for ‘being selfish and endangering other ponies’ by her mentor, flees in tears, Celly feels bad, Luna follows after Twi.  
I forget a lot of what the part in between had, but somehow they found out Celestia had gone crazier than they first expected and was Mooning ponies who became agitated by living a g3-esque cake&teaparty lifestyle. Cloudsdale suffered the worst, having around 5% of their population imprisoned for anti-government agitation. Also the mane 5 notice something is ‘off’ and poke around on their own and find out less damning but still creeeeepy things about the New Celestian Utopia.
 
Luna tells Twilight that challenging her sister directly for the throne might not be a good idea since last time it wrecked the capital and nearly caused a civil war but she’s heard tales from far in the west a thousand years ago about a blade an old diamond dog warlord owned which nullified magic. They go quest, find it, hide it in Luna’s hair, come back, confront Celestia privately, she doesn’t notice Luna’s hair has lost the star pattern.  
At the same time the others come to question Celestia about it and manage to drop in after the argument has already reached the peak of their previous fight, but don’t know about Luna and Twi’s plan naturally. Both sisters begin accusing the other of being controlled by ‘the nightmare,’ while Twilight pulls the sword from Luna’s hair before it can get too heated and moves in, the mane 5 believe they’re about to witness a coup, however, and Rainbow lunge-flies into the path of the sword. Instead of nicking Celestia and stealing her magic, the blade just mows through Rainbow Dash and kills her.
 
Shit happens, pics uploaded result, NLR founded upon tragic demise of prior insane ruler.

Their headcanons for the flashbacks in the S4 premiere must be very amusing.

@Poptard Like I’ve mentioned last time NLR came up, they’ve pretty much all moved to minecraft so that they can play out their goofy Chrysamoon headcanon, that’s why their internet presence aside from the kooky paramilitary types has died out.  
What’s really fun is that they aren’t stuck in S1 as most detractors think they are, they continually twist canon to show that Celestia is still clearly evil, such as Discord’s release then subsequent return to naughty behaviour in the premiere and Three’s a Crowd is Celestia’s trollaciously subtle way of trying to push her sister back out of her life and show her up at the same time with her eventual replacement goldfish (and they even think she has a hoof in why the best Wonderbolts flyers are kinda asshole-y, as that mentality is required of what is essentially a secret government hit squad masquerading as an entertaining flying troupe. Soarin is considered a liability due to his kindness)  
Also she secretly has planned and run wargames centering around the Crystal Empire attempting to assert its complete separation from Canterlot.  
This of course means that their minecraft canon will probably one day run into Chrysadence shipping as well. There’s speculation that Celestia may ‘show her true colours’ if Ponyville, or Cloudsdale perform poorly at the games.  
(so now she’s not just a tyrant, but also Pony Saddam as well)
