Just a general Gala theme and parody movie posters, IIRC. The toys were more clear about putting certain ponies together as well. The Hub almost went bankrupt halfway through S1, so they couldn’t put a lot together.

To be fair, a lot of the 90s Batman cartoon was pretty goddamn silly even without weird shit. Some of the episodes were dark, but others were just hilarious.
FiM is at least less desperate to sell toys than He-Man was, with all of that silly shit.
